Felix or Louis

DH can't get past the cat association but I love Felix. What with YouTube and streaming services, I think the younger generation are less likely to watch/be exposed to tv ads featuring cat food than we were so thinking the link between Felix and cats isn't really relevant. What are your thoughts?
The other name we have is Louis (pronounced Louie), sometimes I love it and sometimes not. Middle name likely to be George or Frederick. DS due next month.

I like how Felix sounds but the cat association is strong in my mind too ('cats like Felix like Felix'!) Having said that, I've met a couple of babies named Felix and I think for their generation it will just be a normal name, no feline link at all!

I much prefer Lewis to Louis, but absolutely nothing wrong with Louis as a name. I wouldn't make a Royal association based on Louis alone. Not a fan of George at all, but I'm probably in the minority there!

pinkpip100 · 22/04/2022 15:32

We have a Felix, now in his mid-teens. DH had similar worries to yours, but honestly no one has ever made negative comments associating his name with cats or cat food. And really what does it matter - there are plenty of other names with 'associations' e.g. Flora or Stella!

I know I'm biased but I still think it's a lovely name and I'm really pleased we chose it.

pinklavenders · 22/04/2022 15:30

Louis definitely.

Felix is just too much linked to the cat food, which is sold in the UK

HadEnoughOfBears · 22/04/2022 15:28

Definitely Louis

chuffoff · 22/04/2022 15:25

Still no further forward. This thread has been very helpful so thank you but it's looking pretty much like 50/50 with both names. Definitely won't be going with George as a middle name if we do choose Louis. In fact the royal association is now putting DH off more than the cat one!

I really love Felix but wouldn't use it because of the niggling worry of the cat food association
If you go with Louis I'd avoid George as middle name

Moonshine160 · 22/04/2022 09:26

Love both. If I had to choose it would be Felix.

Cloud16 · 21/04/2022 08:13

I prefer Louis! Felix is really feline to me. What about Otis?

Iceicebaby123 · 21/04/2022 06:03

Love them both!

Notdoingthis · 21/04/2022 05:51

We have cats and feed them Felix. My kids definitely associate Felix with cats.

WinterWinter2021 · 20/04/2022 09:55

I like Louis :)

Olga03 · 19/04/2022 22:33

I love Felix ❤️
Not a big fan of Louis.

Twizbe · 18/04/2022 06:59

Felix is so popular at the moment. I know 4
Born in the last 12 months!

Louis is also on the rise popularity wise. I can't say I like it.

I LOVE Frederick though.

TulipsGarden · 18/04/2022 06:49

Felix is a lovely name. Yes it's a cat food, but it's also a name in its own right, there have been lots of famous Felixs, and it means happy and lucky.

Louie is also a lovely name, although having lived next door to a woman who yelled at her kid 'Looweeeee' for five years, I've gone off it somewhat 😁 Try shouting the names down the stairs and see which one is less annoying. Also yes, Louis George would make me assume you love the royals.

GrumpyPanda · 18/04/2022 06:49

Felix all the way, it's bright and happy sounding. Louis sounds like a nonagenarian Prussian fuddy-duddy.

SnowyPetals · 18/04/2022 06:43

I know quite a few boys called Felix, ranging from babies to 15 years old. Not one single person ever refers to the cat food, at home or at school. It's a dated association that nobody cares about.

icecreamcart · 18/04/2022 06:38

Felix the cat

Leeloo1233 · 18/04/2022 06:16

I know several little Felixses. No-one things of cats, it's not a thing, you are over thinking

Mumofgirls2017 · 17/04/2022 22:31

I love Felix. Louis also nice but prefer former

Purpleroseas · 17/04/2022 13:40

DH does really like the name Felix but worries about the cat food thing

I think you should respect his views/worry. Felix is indeed a well known brand of cat food in the UK, as cat owners will know.

Louis is a better choice imo.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 17/04/2022 13:02

Love Louis

chuffoff · 17/04/2022 12:57

Ha, thanks. Unfortunately Laurence makes me think of dickheads Fox and Llewelyn-Bowen.

Luredbyapomegranate · 17/04/2022 12:23

I have an irrational dislike of both (helpful).. but if you can’t agree how about Laurence?

chuffoff · 17/04/2022 08:03

DH does really like the name Felix but worries about the cat food thing. My point is that's only really an adult association so not going to have an effect on him until he's older and is already a strong little Felix character of his own. I too like the meaning behind it. I do love Louis too but also think it can sound a bit wet and whiny. Also I'm
absolutely not a royalist so take the point about Louis George, thank you!

Louis by a long way.

I most definitely associate Felix with cat food.
