Help please! Baby boy due imminently and I’d like to have 2 or 3 names to choose from when he arrives but I just don’t feel in love with any of them. DH hasn’t made any suggestions but likes the following suggestions. Middle name William after a family member and short surname, rhymes with Box.

What do you think of:

Elijah William
Rufus William
Jonah William
Ellis William
Jesse William
Aidan William
Elliott William

Thanks everyone, don’t think those responses could have been more mixed Grin but definitely some good points to consider!

I agree that Jesse could be a bit ‘wet’ and I only know of cute kids, no grown men with the name. I’m not bothered about the ‘swill’ with Rufus because he wouldn’t be getting called his full name often. I like the idea of less common names although Elijah is top 100 and Jonah has climbed massively where we live.

Appreciate all the feedback!

Aidan is my favourite, then possibly Jonah or Jesse. I don't like the others. Least favourite is Elijah.

Gardeningcreature · 15/04/2022 12:44

Elijah-I don't think many boys/men can pull this off, too 'out there' for your average man.
Rufus - I like this but again it is quite out of the ordinary so a difficult name to carry off for most ordinary men.
Jonah - not bad, religious overtones though.
Ellis - probably my favourie, I think this would suit your surname.
Jesse - cute on a kid harder to pull off as a man.
Aiden - don't like it can't remain why.
Elliott - second favourate. A nice name, not too outlandish or too common.

If your surname is Fox avoid Rufus which would mean Red Fox. I actually like the name but in your circumstances would be best avoided.
Do you like Rueben?
My least favourite of your list is Jesse, the other names are all good strong and pleasant names.
I also like Eli and Elias as an alternative to Elijah.
Jonah has the association with bad luck etc and Jonah and the Whale. Jonas is a better variant, Ifeel.
Good luck, do return and tell us which name turned out to suit your DS.

Elijah William - not keen, too biblical for me
Rufus William - ok, prefer Rupert or Reuben
Jonah William - not keen, too biblical for me - Joel is nicer
Ellis William - ok, bit wet
Jesse William - ok, bit wet
Aidan William - like a lot
Elliott William - ok, bit wet

Other suggestions - Dylan, Aaron, Ioan

From that list I like Jonah the most. An alternative is Jonas.

Rufus William (my favourite) and Elliott William are the ones that are manly, handsome and not too popular.

Do you like Rupert?

SleepingStandingUp · 15/04/2022 00:41

Elijah William
Rufus William
Jonah William
My top three, in no partic order

Luredbyapomegranate · 15/04/2022 00:39

I like them all other than Elliot (wet), and Ellis (nothing-y).

WeasilyPleased · 14/04/2022 22:43

Aidan William sounds best and I also liked Rufus until a pp pointed out the swill!

Mumofgirls2017 · 14/04/2022 22:12

Rufus, Ellis, Jesse or Elliott!

ozzyfroggy · 14/04/2022 21:57

Eliot goes best with your surname.

Aiden is my favourite on the list.

Indoctro · 14/04/2022 21:41

Rufus reminds me of a dog too much

Riverlee · 14/04/2022 21:38

Elijah William - ok
Rufus William - my favourite from your list
Jonah William -not so keen
Ellis William - quite like
Jesse William - ok-ish
Aidan William -ok-ish
Elliott William - nice

What about Aaron or Tobias?

AuraBora · 14/04/2022 21:36

I think Elliott William is the nicest combination.

Indoctro · 14/04/2022 21:35

I like just William as the name

bloominglovelyorange · 14/04/2022 21:33

Ellis is my top choice
Love that name

17caterpillars1mouse · 14/04/2022 19:55

Elijah William - I like Elijah but it has a down-market reputation in my local area. I really like that it can be shortened to Eli which I love. Also like Elias

Rufus William - love Rufus. It was our frontrunner is dd2 had been a boy

Jonah William - I like it
Ellis William - not a fan
Jesse William - really not a fan
Aidan William - I really like Aidan. Due a comeback
Elliott William - lovely name

Sarah13xx · 14/04/2022 19:52

Elijah William - I don’t like this name at all, not sure why but I just really don’t
Rufus William - cute, reminds me of a dogs name slightly though
Jonah William - yeah, nice
Ellis William - love Ellis
Jesse William - I liked this when naming a boy but my partner pointed out how much teasing he might get for being called a Jesse so that put me off
Aidan William - the boys I know called Aidan have ruined this name for me I think
Elliott William - yes, another favourite. I’d go this or Ellis

HopingForMyRainbowBaby · 14/04/2022 19:50

Elliot William

Fivebeanchilli · 14/04/2022 19:39

Rufus is my favourite by far.
But I like them all except for Aidan.

KirstenBlest · 14/04/2022 19:37

Like:
Ellis
Elliott

Not keen:
Elijah - too long
Rufus - know a dog wirh the name
Jonah - fades into the OT names
Aidan - ruined by the Jayden, Kayden, Hayden trend

Dislike:
Jesse - you big Jesse

Snooptheboot · 14/04/2022 19:21

Rufus William
Jonah William
Aidan William
Elliott William

Love all of these, Aidan probably the most.

Fl0w3ry · 14/04/2022 19:02

Like all of them apart from Ellis, Jessie and Elliot.
Jonah and Aidan are my favourites from your list. All the names work well with William.

Firebird83 · 14/04/2022 17:55

Jesse William
