As a sibling for Tabitha?

What goes best?

I think they’re both lovely names so you can’t go wrong. Arguably, when said together, Esther sounds slightly better with Tabitha than Martha, but it’s not like their names will be reeled off together their whole lives. Maybe keep both as options and decide what suits her best when you meet her?

Martha

Esther is lovely.

Not so keen on Martha personally.

Jemima is another lovely, underused biblical name.

I love them both.
I think I would go for Martha.
Tabitha and Martha is lovely.

@UhtredsLatestPaganHussy

I can imagine a novel about three puritan sisters called Martha, Esther and Tabitha.

Tabitha would be the wild one who'd be cast out of the settlement by the elders, Martha would be the pious one, and Esther would appear pious but plot twist: end up being part of a secret sapphic thruple with Dorcas and Abigail.

I like the Tess suggestion by pp. So I vote Esther.

This made me laugh. Thank you.

Love Esther

@TheMoreYouKnow

Martha is frumpy. Also sounds even worse when shortened to 'Ma'. Esther is lovely though.
I have a Martha. Literally no-one does this.

@ZoyaTheDestroyer

What has her speaking got to do with her being a kitchen drudge? She faffs around with housework rather than hanging out with JC.

Don’t be a dipshit, etc.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 13/04/2022 23:36

@Luredbyapomegranate

Esther 💯

Martha is a kitchen drudge. Not a patch on Tabitha or Esther.

Your internalised misogyny is showing. Martha is one of very few named women who speaks in the Bible (which Tabitha does not). If that’s not enough there’s a fantastic French myth about her slaying a dragon Grin

DramaAlpaca · 13/04/2022 21:39

Esther, by a very long way.

christmasthoughts · 13/04/2022 21:11

Martha

SpellitwithaY · 13/04/2022 21:07

Okay so my name is Esther and I love it. Unusual but everyone knows it. No others at my school or work.

And I've NEVER been called Tess or anything like that (thank god)!!!

Yika · 13/04/2022 20:59

I prefer Martha but like both and Esther is better with Tabitha.

What about Miriam?

resm · 13/04/2022 20:59

Martha - goes well with Tabitha. I think Esther sounds a bit harsh.

AntarcticTern · 13/04/2022 20:52

Esther - love it. My favourite nickname is Tess / Tessa.

mamaduckbone · 13/04/2022 20:51

I like both, and Martha would be my preference generally, but Esther goes better with Tabitha.

Thejoyfulstar · 13/04/2022 20:50

Hagar? Grin

Thejoyfulstar · 13/04/2022 20:49

I love Marta which is Italian for Martha.
