Demi

Any thoughts on Demi? My sister has suggested it for my baby girl.
I'm not keen.
Also suggested Demi-Leigh but don't like that either. Feels a bit naff and chavy.
I want something with the initial D but something more solid and traditional.

Demi is just a shortening of Demetria

Cornishmumofone · 12/04/2022 16:59

Dimitra?
Demelza?

Madrenetterhere · 12/04/2022 14:49

Demi. Meaning half. Don't know why anyone would think that nice

Snoopsnoggysnog · 12/04/2022 14:40

Demi is just half to me and Demi-Leigh is awful. Lots of good suggestions here.

I like Darcey and Diana.

Please don’t call her Dorcas! Shock

I couldn't call a baby 'half' - French speaker here!

There's much nicer D names posted on this thread. I like

Dahlia
Della
Delila
Dorothy/ Dot
Dakota - love this one!

toastofthetown · 12/04/2022 14:22

Demi feels very 90's to me. I love Diana as a solid traditional name beginning with D.

MinoucheSapphic · 12/04/2022 14:21

I find it to be rather dated - for me it brings to mind the 1990s and Demi Moore. Also, I don't love the fact that it means "half" in French. Not a fan of Demi-Leigh either.

More traditional D names - Daphne, Diana, Delia, Danielle/Daniella, Dorothy/Dorothea. (Apparently Demi was originally short for Demetria, which is not exactly traditional to the UK, but I thought I would suggest it anyway.)

Purpleroseas · 12/04/2022 14:20

It just looks like 'one half' to me...

Fl0w3ry · 12/04/2022 14:19

I’ve known a few. I wouldn’t use the name personally.

NannyR · 12/04/2022 14:16

I don't like Demi, it makes me think of the actress or half of something.
How about Delilah or Dara?

Wannabangbang · 12/04/2022 14:13

Beautiful name my niece is called it

Saisong · 12/04/2022 14:12

I can't get over the 'half' connotations. It seems so diminishing.
