Which 'pet names' do you use for your children, if any?

We call our oldest daughter 'poppet'. My mum always called me 'sausage'. I don't have one for my youngest daughter yet - nothing has really materialised, and her name doesn't really have any nice shortening, so looking for ideas!

I call all my kids babe or baby. Everyone calls dd6 trouble or sausage. But I don’t know why!

Benjaminsniddlegrass · 12/04/2022 23:46

Hawkins - my DH would call her hername-kins, which got shortened to kins, and then he'd say ahh kins which in his NE accent became Hawkins. So anyway that. But then also bear or some derivation of such like monkey-bear (not sure why), bugalugs, boogaloo... Anyhoo basically nothing related to her actual name which is lovely but not what we use most of the time.

Our dd's nn is Tommy due to often going the colour of a tomato Blush

Marmite27 · 12/04/2022 22:16

Pickle and Sweetpea.

Sweetpea was originally Chickpea, but evolved.

Somuddled · 12/04/2022 22:12

I'd go for Beebs or Bumble. But as other posters say, it is supposed to come naturally.

BurglerBill · 12/04/2022 21:59

@HammerToFall

Baby dyl for Dylan even though he's six foot has a six pack and is 16. He's down as baby dyl in my phone as well. When he was little my mother in law called him dildo and didn't have w clue what she was saying. Smile
Oh my god 😂

@BrutusMcDogface

I don’t think you can ask other people for pet names for your child? They just evolve. We have ‘name-bobs’, ‘name-moo’, ‘nameles’ (not nameless; for example George would be georgles. Not the real name but you get the idea!)

That said, I think Bee or Fifi would be great for a phoebe.

Yep, I get your point - my problem is that the name which has evolved in our house is pretty awful, so I'm trying to get away from it and thought that starting a thread might give me an idea of the types of names used by others.

Angel bear 🧸

Twizbe · 12/04/2022 21:22

My son is Puppy, Pups or Squeaker because when he was born he looked like a puppy and made little squeaking sounds

My daughter is Ce Monkey, Monkey, Monks, Monkey Moo, Mrs Moo or Pumpkin. The short form of her name is Ce or CeCe so Ce Monkey (as in Sea Monkey) came from that.

AnneElliott · 12/04/2022 21:16

I call DS sausage- but strictly just between us. He calls me Mamma but only at home!

SilverOtter · 12/04/2022 21:15

Mine are the Little Goblins.

Individually they are Minnoo and Whiskers❤️

chelle0 · 12/04/2022 21:13

Squish, squishy, squishingtons, pickle, baby, princess, curly locks, my little love, lamb chop and butt cheeks.

Savingpeoplehuntingthings · 12/04/2022 21:12

Leaf or Lilly for ds
Mess or Geoffrey for dd.
Like a pp said I don't think they're something you can plan or get advice on they're just in family joke names that have evolved over time.

Manzana · 12/04/2022 21:10

two boys (in their 20s now) still call them sweetie
when they were little, sweetie, poppet, youngest was called tug boat
