We are a German-English family and want a name for our boy that work in both languages. Will be a brother for Helena and Fabian. Marius is our front runner but reception has been mixed with people we’ve mentioned it to. Interested in your thoughts, thanks.

I think it's lovely

Absolutely love it!
Goes beautifully with your other lovely names too.

timoteigirl · 10/04/2022 19:02

Love it! One I considered for mine! Reminds me of a character in David Mitchell's books. A good guy.

Nellle · 09/04/2022 13:16

Love it.

Luredbyapomegranate · 09/04/2022 13:15

It's my Norwegian nephew's name. Lovely name.

MoMuntervary · 09/04/2022 09:54

@MoMuntervary

Makes me think of David Mitchell books. Marius is a great character who reappears in different guises across several of his novels. I love it for that reason.
*Character is actually called Marinus, stupid phone.

Was trying to say that Marius reminded me of Marinus, not that it was the same. Great name anyway!

clarrylove · 09/04/2022 09:29

I love it! Is there a shortened version? I also like Marcus.

RomeoMcFlourish · 09/04/2022 09:27

It’s a great name. Goes really well with his siblings names too.

PinkSyCo · 09/04/2022 09:27

It’s a really good strong name and goes really well with your other DC’s names. Love it.

theotherfossilsister · 09/04/2022 09:24

I like it a lot. I think of Pagnol and Marseilles.

It's a lovely name!

babynamelover · 09/04/2022 09:01

Not a fan. Much prefer Marcus.

Synchrony · 09/04/2022 08:11

I did immediately think "My name is Marius Pontmercy..." but I like the name. I'd assume you were Les Mis fans or French before I met you.

It's a rare name in the UK and Les Mis is likely to be the only time most people have heard it, hence the strong connection.

Appolonia · 09/04/2022 06:17

Lovely name, and goes really well with his siblings' names.

Yousexybugger · 09/04/2022 06:13

It's nice! I didn't know the les mis association either so didn't see why people would have a strong reaction to it (in a good way, it just seems such a classic across Europe- I have met a Greek Marios, a Polish Mariusz and an Italian Mario over the years).

BatshitCrazyWoman · 09/04/2022 06:06

I like it. My now nearly 30 year old DC had a friend called Marius at school 🙂

GADDay · 09/04/2022 05:44

Very common South African/Afrikaans name pronounced Mah-ree-is.

I don't mind it now but didn't like it as a young adult.

BertieBotts · 09/04/2022 05:23

It's lovely and honestly Fabian feels more "much" to my English ears so if they've got used to that, they'll get used to it!

CadyStanton · 08/04/2022 22:27

I can’t believe I’ve never heard of the Les Mis connection for Marius. Seems like it’s a big association! I’m so cheered by these responses. I have loved this name for a long time but was starting to doubt myself. Thanks all.
