We are almost settled for this name for our baby boy. Any thoughts? I love both the greek mythology and the geography meanings

I don't like it at all I'm afraid. I think it's this year's Arlo. But the main thing is that you like it.

Luredbyapomegranate · 07/04/2022 23:40

Quite like it

He did carry the world on his back though, which I wouldn’t wish on anyone..

tunnocksreturns2019 · 07/04/2022 22:59

@Obelisk

Makes me think of this-

Atlas

There is a kind of love called maintenance
Which stores the WD40 and knows when to use it;

Which checks the insurance, and doesn’t forget
The milkman; which remembers to plant bulbs;

Which answers letters; which knows the way
The money goes; which deals with dentists

And Road Fund Tax and meeting trains,
And postcards to the lonely; which upholds

The permanently rickety elaborate
Structures of living, which is Atlas.

And maintenance is the sensible side of love,
Which knows what time and weather are doing
To my brickwork; insulates my faulty wiring;
Laughs at my dryrotten jokes; remembers
My need for gloss and grouting; which keeps
My suspect edifice upright in air,
As Atlas did the sky.

Not my taste in names - but worth coming on the thread for this poem, thank you Smile

I know a guy called Sheba.
Call your son whatever you like Grin

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 07/04/2022 22:48

I'd be thinking 'are they Greek mythology fans or Ayn Rand fans. Hope they're not Rand fans'.

Justkeeppedaling · 07/04/2022 22:41

It would be awful if he turned out skinny!

Bluetowelsandflannels · 07/04/2022 22:37

What if he's a skinny little geek? I've got two skinny little geeks but the idea of saddling them with a name like Atlas?? Is he likely to be enormous and outgoing?? If not just don't

WeasilyPleased · 07/04/2022 22:32

Sorry @Kite22 ...I see you're in my gang!

WeasilyPleased · 07/04/2022 22:31

Lone voice here. I think it's pretentious and daft. Sorry.

Kite22 · 07/04/2022 22:14

@tanstaafl

Go for it - he’ll have his whole future mapped out.

But seriously, don't. It's awful.

CalmDownBoris72 · 07/04/2022 21:07

I love it, my daughter goes to a baby class with a little one with this name and I’ve always thought it was a brilliant name.

inmyslippers · 07/04/2022 21:02

I love it

beans1992 · 07/04/2022 20:54

I really love it.

scottishnames · 07/04/2022 19:34

If you have Greek heritage, perhaps. But otherwise: You love how Greek myths condemn a rebel to forever bear a crushing weight on his head and hands? Or (another myth) how a man who refused shelter to a traveller was turned into a mountain as a punishment? There are other interpretations, of course, but I'm not sure that they cancel these out www.theoi.com/Titan/TitanAtlas.html

But up to you. The name is easy to spell and say.

SittingOvation · 07/04/2022 19:26

Love it. I had it on my list by DH wasn't sure.

motherofggs · 07/04/2022 19:23

Atlas Shrugged
Ayn Rand, that's what comes to my mind. But that clearly isn't the consensus.
