List is as follows:

Lauren
Caitlin
Lyla
Evelyn
Olivia
Iris
Clara
Leah

Surname is long and ends in -ee sound so those names Emily/Sophie/Amy etc are out as too samey.

Any other suggestions welcome

Evelyn, Iris and Lyla are my favourite. I have a niece called Evelyn and her nn has got nothing to do with her actual name. I don't think I've ever heard anyone shorten it. The other 2 are also names I've considered :)

BonjourCrisette · 05/05/2022 11:26

Lauren - very dated, 90s
Caitlin - dated
Lyla - she will get misspelt all the time and as others have said there is a lot of Lila, Lilah, Isla, Maya, Lyra etc around. Also, it just looks like it's a misspelling in an attempt to differentiate it to me which puts me off a bit.
Evelyn - pronunciation issues. It is pretty though.
Olivia - dull
Iris - very popular from around 5 years ago. There are quite a lot around if that matters to you.
Clara - lovely
Leah - really like

blameitonthecaffeine · 05/05/2022 10:26

Lauren - really like it and, although I know lots of adult Laurens, I don't know any children with this name so it's unusual.
Caitlin - quite like it.
Lyla - like it.
Evelyn - like it.
Olivia - quite like it but feels overused currently.
Iris - love it. Trendy right now but it's beautiful and elegant.
Clara - not keen, it sounds claggy to me.
Leah - it's ok.

I'd go with Iris but none of them are bad choices, imo.

WeasilyPleased · 04/05/2022 22:42

Caitlin and Iris are easily my favourites.

Sonata13 · 04/05/2022 20:58

Prefer Clara or the Italian Chiara

Cryingintherain99 · 04/05/2022 20:52

Lauren - It's OK but I associate with 1990s. I don't know any under 20.
Caitlin - I've always really liked this. All the ones I know are teenagers.
Lyla - Pretty but overused along with Layla, Lola, Lyra etc.
Evelyn - I like.
Olivia - Still very popular, but I like it.
Iris - I like. Makes me think of the flower.
Clara - My favourite on your list. Love this!
Leah - Pretty and simple.

OneCup · 04/05/2022 19:36

Iris, Clara or Leah for me

DoctorZog · 04/05/2022 18:32

Lauren - not keen, feel like I went to school with quite a few, so it feels dated to me. Lorna?
Caitlin - not keen, though I like Kate. Catrin, Katrina / Catriona?
Lyla - ok, a lot of similar sounding names around. My favourites are Lyra and Leila.
Evelyn - I love Eve - short and simple
Olivia - pretty but popular. Ophelia?
Iris - love
Clara - dislike, Lara is much nicer. Cora, Cara?
Leah - see Lyla

You might also like:

Lara
Skyla
Lucinda
Sorrel
Seren
Lucia
Paloma

SmiledWtherisingsun · 04/05/2022 18:24

Love your list op!

I think my top 3 would be:

Leah
Lauren
Caitlin

Not keen on Olivia though sorry.

17caterpillars1mouse · 04/05/2022 18:09

It's s nice list

Lauren - I like it, I know a 4 year old Lauren then several in their 30s

Caitlin - I like this two and the NN Catie. I only know two (a 5 year old and an 8 year old)

Lyla - not a fan. L names seem to be everywhere and all blend together. They feel a bit meh

Evelyn - pretty but I know loads, plus loads of Eva's and Evie's too

Olivia - I like (only know 1 5 year old and 1 toddler despite popularity). I prefer Olive though

Iris - love it but it clashes with my surname

Clara - lovely again. I don't know any

Leah - it's nicer than alot of other L names. I like that it's biblical so had history

A few suggestions that seem similar in style:

Lyra
Lorelei
Hannah
Bethany
Carla
Erica
Viola
Rebecca

hullaballoo19 · 04/05/2022 17:54

I love lyla

DogsAndGin · 04/05/2022 17:45

Lauren - nice
Caitlin - nice
Lyla - sounds daft
Evelyn - nice
Olivia - nice
Iris - not for me
Clara - dull
Leah - cheap

Firebird83 · 04/05/2022 17:10

Iris or Clara

MerryMarigold · 04/05/2022 15:42

If you like Lyla, how about Lyra? I like how it reminds me of Lyrical.

I know a few Lylas, Lilas and a lot of Islas!

@Erictheavocado thank for your views and you’re right I feel such a huge responsibility with the name! It’s driving myself and DH nuts. There are so many names we either don’t like or have already been used by close friends and family so it feels like we’re not even picking from the best selection just trying to find something nice in the leftovers!! 🙈 hopefully we will get to the stage where one stands out.

Some of your names are too old fashioned for me (I'm in my 60's so some just conjure up images of old ladies from my childhood), however:
Lauren - very pretty
Caitlin - love this
Lyla - too common (at least in the school where I work, one class has 3 of various spellings but same pronunciation)
Evelyn - sorry, too old lady for me.
Olivia - pretty but well used
Iris - I like it but have a cousin Iris who is in ger late 70's, so too old lady for me.
Clara - always reminds me of my favourite book as a child, (Heidi), so yes
Leah -loved this when I was younger and still like it a lot.

It is so hard to choose, it felt like a huge responsibility when we were naming our dcs. Good luck.

Liv999 · 02/04/2022 22:35

Lauren - my daughters name so love it
Caitlin - No
Lyla - No, too many similar sounding like like Lyra, Lola, Layla, Myla, Mila, Maya, Mia etc, all starting to blend into one
Evelyn - Really dislike this, one of the older names I cannot get behind
Olivia - My name Grin
Iris - No
Clara - Gorgeous, my favourite along with Lauren
Leah - Its ok, not great but not awful

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 02/04/2022 21:05

Lauren - lovely
Caitlin - my favourite
Lyla - not to my taste, really
Evelyn - lovely
Olivia - awful. I cannot understand the popularity of this name at all
Iris - I find this quite harsh, somehow
Clara - lovely
Leah - lovely, my #2 from these

Caramelcap · 02/04/2022 20:47

Lauren - like
Caitlin - LOVE
Lyla - not keen
Evelyn - not keen
Olivia - like but common
Iris - Not keen on the old lady name trend
Clara - cool name
Leah - like but boring?

Suggestions:
Hannah (could be considered boring but always loved it)
Jasmine
Coral
Orla
Eloise
Elodie

IsThePopeCatholic · 02/04/2022 20:24

Iris, Lyla and Evelyn. Not keen on the others.

WaltzedIntoIt · 02/04/2022 20:21

Thanks guys, lots of mixed views but glad some names on the list are liked! I’ve looked at all the suggestions and unfortunately a lot of them don’t work. We’re last to have kids of all our family and friends due to needing IVF so lots of those names are taken or similar so Sara by a friend so Sarah is too similar or other issues for example laura being a childhood bully so out, Louisa my MIL name, lyla needing to be spelt like that as niece is Lily so trying to distinguish it a bit!

Lyla is probably my favourite at the minute so would love to know why it’s such a No for so many people if anyone could share!

Ellmau · 02/04/2022 20:01

Lauren - nice enough but quite dated atm; would the more timeless Laura work for you?
Caitlin - ditto
Lyla - I don't like that spelling, Lilah is quite nice
Evelyn - OK
Olivia - OK but very popular
Iris - gorgeous name
Clara - meh
Leah - sounds pretty but looks ugly

Kanaloa · 02/04/2022 17:41

How on earth is Lyla a ‘naughty girl’ name? What prominent ‘naughty girl’ character is named Lyla?

If you mean ‘working class people use this name so I find it gross’ then just say that and own your horrible opinions.

PatterPaws · 02/04/2022 17:15
  1. Clara
  2. Leah
  3. Olivia
  4. Lauren
