Elizabeth

Grumpasaurusrex · 01/04/2022 15:16

Elizabeth. Don't like Cordelia

superram · 01/04/2022 10:39

Elizabeth, cordelia is an annoying, precocious child in a book (in my head).

Luckingfovely · 01/04/2022 10:36

Love Elizabeth and hate Cordelia. No idea why, it just sounds horrible to me.

I would spell it Elisabeth though (the original version).

timestheyarechanging · 01/04/2022 10:28

I wasn't naked, I was named after Corrie ten Boom who was an amazing woman. My mum had a Dutch pen friend in the early 60s who was a Corrie so it stemmed from that.
I've always liked my name but the Coronation st connection annoy me somewhat - but it does make for some funny red top headlines!
Always annoyed me as a child, never being able to have a pen or anything personalised but with the internet, that's all changed. My daughter has an unusual name and I can now get anything personalised for her.

Cordelia

timestheyarechanging · 01/04/2022 10:23

My name is Cordeliabut it's never used - always Corrie. I was naked after Corrie ten boom.
One of my best friends is Elizabeth (we are both 51) and her name is never shortened. She doesn't like any of the deriverties so is always Elizabeth. Woukd feel weird calling her Lizzie or Beth!

Firesidefox · 01/04/2022 10:19

I absolutely love both

DancingBarefootOnIce · 01/04/2022 10:17

I love Cordelia and wish I could choose it but seems too fancy.

comealongponds · 01/04/2022 10:17

Elizabeth by a mile, it’s my all time favourite name

CruCru · 01/04/2022 10:02

I love Elizabeth but every single Elizabeth I know gets it shortened to Liz (even when they openly say they hate Liz).

So Cordelia.

Hummingbirdcake · 01/04/2022 10:00

Elizabeth.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 01/04/2022 09:59

Cordelia is awesome

spearmynt · 01/04/2022 09:46

Elizabeth

LittleBird4 · 01/04/2022 09:05

Elizabeth

Amdone123 · 01/04/2022 08:14

Elizabeth for me, but the more I say Cordelia, the more I like it. It's so pretty.

Ellmau · 01/04/2022 08:10

Cordelia

Electrox · 01/04/2022 08:08

Cordelia

Luredbyapomegranate · 01/04/2022 07:44

Both lovely but Cordelia because Elizabeth (and short forms like Elsie and Eliza used as independent names) is so popular at the moment.

Solosunrise · 01/04/2022 07:40

Elizabeth for me. I love Lizzie as a diminutive, but also Bess/Beth

StopFeckingFaffing · 01/04/2022 07:37

I love both but given the choice I would rather be called Elizabeth than Cordelia due to the options for shortening it

sweetbellyhigh · 01/04/2022 07:34

Cordelia just makes me think of cordial

Elizabeth is lovely

gingerhills · 01/04/2022 07:33

I prefer Elizabeth. I love how varied the diminutives are, so you can find one that really suits the girl's personality: Liz, Lizzie, Liza, Eliza, Beth, Betty, Libby etc. It's a wonderful name.

I like Cordelia but associate it too heavily with King Lear - such a bitter, sad story, even though she is the heroine. And I'm not wild about the "Cor' sound.

Roselilly36 · 01/04/2022 07:11

I prefer Elizabeth, Cordelia always sounds like Cor! Delia to me.

StarlingsInTheRoof · 01/04/2022 06:50

I don't like the z sound in Elizabeth, so would say Cordelia. I do like some of the nicknames of Elizabeth such as Bess, Beth and Betty, so depending on what you want to do with it, can be nice too.
