Roland Rat.
Roly Poly
Roland from Grange Hill

beautyFullCLoUDS · 03/04/2022 16:26

I think of a little tubster.

Starbeach · 03/04/2022 16:22

Oh in my job I deal with rats and we call them Roland's sorry

RuthW · 02/04/2022 16:24

Grange Hill and Row-land.

Don't do it.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 02/04/2022 12:10

Roland yes. Roly no.

There is a character on Hey Duggee called Roly. He is a sweet but very spirited and slightly dim hippo.

DoWhatYouLike · 02/04/2022 11:33

Terrible.

Roland Rat
Roland Rivron (so-called comedian who was never funny)
Roland Gift (band Fine Young Cannibals)

DemBonesDemBones · 02/04/2022 11:00

I never say this on baby name threads but no. It's AWFUL.

Madamecastafiore · 02/04/2022 08:26

Fat boy in Grange Hill.

izzy2076 · 02/04/2022 08:26

I've been trying to find this for years!!!! I'm now going to frantically forward it to my 48 year old friends.

Aorh · 02/04/2022 08:13

It’s a family name for us and I felt like it was a bit too out there for our lists, it was a case of “I can almost imagine it working but not quite”

In all honesty, I think I was over thinking. It’s a bit unusual but it’s a recognised name and anyone who wasn’t sure on hearing it would just get used to it.

And all those associations are so far back I can’t imagine any of them extending to the current generation of kids.

Aspergirl77 · 02/04/2022 07:50

Roland rat.

And a rhyme from my childhood:
Roly Poly pudding and pie
Kissed the girls and made them cry
When the boys came out to play
Roly Poly ran away

Robin233 · 02/04/2022 07:46

Pps
My son has it as a second name.
And loves it.

Robin233 · 02/04/2022 07:45

Ps my Roland was also a third / youngest child.

Robin233 · 02/04/2022 07:44

Classic
But it was my beloved Dads name
My granny was going to call him Donald (yuk) but Walt Disney created 'Donald Duck'.....
And to be fair Roland Rat didn't really last that long.
However Donald Duck .....
Go for it op.
He will be an awesome child / man.

MintyMoocow · 02/04/2022 07:31

I was thinking
“Childe Roland to the dark tower came.”
I am cultured.
I also like the name Roland very much.

LivingOnTheVeg · 02/04/2022 07:28

DP and I are 26 but instantly thought Roland Rat. I’m sure today’s kids wouldn’t know him, but I think more people would say ‘Rat’ than you think!

HorribleDryHair · 02/04/2022 06:44

Vile. Reeks of eccentric, bohemian, middle-class whimsy. I really hate it. Sorry x

SpringHasSprungYay · 02/04/2022 06:36

Raphael
Reuben
Rory
Rocky
Rocco
River
Remi

All better imo

SpringHasSprungYay · 02/04/2022 06:33

Makes me think of RoLAND in Grange Hill. And Rat.

Lulu1919 · 02/04/2022 06:24

Grange Hill

Lovebroccoli · 02/04/2022 06:17

I don't like it, it sounds too old fashioned.

AgingBadly · 02/04/2022 06:07

Yep - Roland Rat for sure!

AuntTwacky · 02/04/2022 01:28

Eastenders baby

AuntTwacky · 02/04/2022 01:28

Nooooo

sarah13xx · 02/04/2022 00:55

The fact people are on board with it is swaying me, maybe it could be cute in a child name way too. I say go for it, better to be bold than be the same as everyone else. He could probably get a few different nicknames out of it later in life
