Hi all I'm just after your first thoughts when you see the girls name Mazel or Mazelle and how would you pronounce it without looking it up? Mai-zel or Mar-zel or something different?? I like the meaning and the nn mazie but I'm unsure if the name is to out there

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Mazela would make me think of Mazola. Brand of sunflower oil. Is it still around? 🤔

BrutusMcDogface · 30/03/2022 06:38

Mazela? Why are you making up a name?

What’s wrong with just Maisie?

SickAndTiredAgain · 30/03/2022 06:37

I’d pronounce Mazel to rhyme with hazel, and Mazelle to rhyme with gazelle.

ButterRose · 30/03/2022 06:35

@TheWayTheLightFalls I understand what your saying like I mentioned before I don't want it to be offensive or weird for anyone would Mazela get the same reaction??

May-zel and May-zelle

Marvellousmadness · 30/03/2022 06:33

In dutch it is smallpox

So it's no for me

TheWayTheLightFalls · 30/03/2022 06:13

Noooo… as a Jew I find it weird (and btw “tov” means good, so “mazal”, to use the correct pronunciation, just means “luck” - which may be good or bad). And as an English speaker I hear “muzzle”. No no no.

Fuuuuuckit · 30/03/2022 06:09

May - zul (sounds a bit Worzel Gummige to me) or Muz-elle. Both a no from me.

Maisie is lovely on its own.

Hercisback · 30/03/2022 06:09

I've heard of Mazel Tov but never just Mazel on its own.

ButterRose · 30/03/2022 06:07

@Hercisback yes it is it's Hebrew for luck Mazel Tov is to wish someone good luck....I like the meaning and the nn Mazie so unfortunately as much as Gazelle is pretty it's not what I'm after

@INeverKnewYa I just love the meaning of luck I realise Mazel Tov is good luck but would it be disrespectful to Jewish people for me an Australian non Jew person to use the name Mazel? I wouldn't want to offend

First thoughts Mazel Tov and muzzle for a dog.

Hercisback · 30/03/2022 06:01

Gazelle.

Is it an actual name?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 30/03/2022 06:01

@Jonesy88

I pronounced it as if it rhymed with Hazel.
Me too
Solosunrise · 30/03/2022 06:00

I'd assume Mazel rhymes with hazel. Withthe double L spelling I'd put the emphasis on the ending of the name.

Jonesy88 · 30/03/2022 05:58

I pronounced it as if it rhymed with Hazel.

Vampirethriller · 30/03/2022 05:57

Ma Zell

INeverKnewYa · 30/03/2022 05:56

First thought is: Mazel Tov

Good luck
