I'm waiting for a call from the IVF clinic with a start date and trying to keep my mind busy. What do you think of Theodora?

Hit me with all the possible nicknames you can think of (we're big into nicknames in my family)

A beautiful name! A gift from God indeed. I love Dorry! So cute. xx

tararabumdeay · 21/04/2022 15:57

Ah Christmas Jumpers, he is called Theo.

ChristmasJumpers · 21/04/2022 14:53

@LowbrowVictoriana my only worry is popularity! Grin trying to find that sweet spot between nice and well known but not overly used is tough! Do you know any other than your DD? Love Dodo, we'll be avoiding Thea as I have a close friend with a little Thea

@tararabumdeay I'd love to know what you went with for your DS? I struggle with boys names but love Dorothea (although not quite as much as Theodora) so maybe we have similar tastes

If my boy was a girl he'd have been Dorothea.

Divebar2021 · 20/04/2022 23:14

The Theodora (Theo) I know is terribly well bred and lovely. She is related to a Leonora and a Roshnara who are also lovely women.

LowbrowVictoriana · 20/04/2022 23:08

Well, I think it's an excellent name, strong and stylish, but I'm biased as I have one! She's Thea to most people, but I call her Dodo!

It's also my mum's middle name. She was always embarrassed about it and thought it a bit naff, but it's come back in style now and is quite popular.

Purpleroseas · 19/04/2022 10:54

Theodora is lovely. Theo or Dora are the obvious nicknames!

IsabelHerna · 19/04/2022 00:34

I love it! And it has such a nice meaning, especially for an ivf baby.

Thea, Dora, Dotty, Rea

Good luck with your ivf journey, trust me it can be a long roller coaster, but try to focus on the positive and build a support system. You will need it in time. Sending you positive energy and lots of love

WeasilyPleased · 30/03/2022 01:47

Good luck OP. The Theodora I know is known as Dorrie and is a bundle of fun so good connotations for me.

DogsAndGin · 29/03/2022 20:13

Very pretty

ChristmasJumpers · 29/03/2022 11:46

@MurderAtTheBeautyPageant I love to hear negative perceptions to see if they put me off! Yours hasn't but it has made me chuckle Grin

@Kindfulness Felicity is on my (very long) list too! Love it

Good luck with the IVF

I don't like Theodora at all but I love Dorothy. nn Dot, Dolly or Doris

darlingdodo · 29/03/2022 11:11

Good luck. Theodora is a great name, and all the nns are great
Theo
Thea
Dora
Teddy
Dodo
Dor

Kindfulness · 29/03/2022 11:07

We wanted this name after watching the haunting of hill house on Netflix - however, got put off by the popularity of Theodore / Teddy for the male equivalent.

We ended up going with Felicity and absolutely no regrets!

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 29/03/2022 11:00

I picture a rather severe Victorian maiden aunt who’d glare disapprovingly at you through her pince-nez. But if I met a lovely little Theodora I’m sure my perception would shift!

Hope the call brings you the news you want to hear.

StopStartStop · 29/03/2022 10:38

Love it.

MajesticallyAwkward · 29/03/2022 10:37

Good luck OP!

Theodora is lovely, I know a lovely lady named that, she's had a few nicknames over the years (known each other since we were babies and she's in her 30s so they've changed as she aged):
Doraki (Greek heritage)
Theo
Thea
Dora

ChristmasJumpers · 29/03/2022 10:29

@KatRee very best of luck!! Are you on any of the infertility threads? I'll keep an eye out for updates on Thursday Flowers

KatRee · 29/03/2022 10:26

@ChristmasJumpers I think you could get away with Dottie, but would probably have to introduce her as a Dottie and fill out the 'known as' bit on all the forms
Sortie's very cute as well and I bit of a clearer connection I guess

I'm 6 weeks pregnant today and waiting for viability scan on Thursday 🤞🤞

GetOutOfTheBathPlease · 29/03/2022 10:12

Love it. Good luck!

ChristmasJumpers · 29/03/2022 10:11

Thanks everyone for the best wishes, it's a scary but exciting time!

@YessicaHaircut hadn't thought of Dorrie, super cute!

And Roberta/Bobby!
All the best with your IVF Flowers

YessicaHaircut · 29/03/2022 10:08

I love it and it was on our list for a girl (we had a boy so didn’t get to use it!) nn Theo/Dora/Dorrie. I also love Leonora nn Leo/Norrie

DinosaursEatMan · 29/03/2022 10:08

Also wishing you all the best!

DinosaursEatMan · 29/03/2022 10:05

Beautiful name! Agree that Teddy is cute, Dora is nice too
