I don't like any baby names

I am struggling to think of any baby names for a girl...

When I have thought of some names I've gone off them or I like the name but for someone else's baby not mine. For example I like Lucy but don't think its the name of my child if that makes any sense.

I was thinking Anna for a while but have gone off it and my DH thinks it's boring. He also vetoed Alice and perhaps its boring too.

When I was younger I wanted to call my daughter Aurora but am put off it because its associated with Disney now and that was nothing to do with why I liked it.

So any suggestions? Ideally perhaps a name that is Scottish or works well in Scotland but can also be pronounced in other European countries. Something not too out there, but not too common. Not too frilly either.

I have a few weeks to go as baby not due until summer, but at least would like a shortlist of possibilities.

I don’t think I would have been so worried about picking in advance of my husband could have spent lots of time with me post birth deciding - we only get 2 hours post birth than an hour a day until I’m allowed home so it feels a little more pressured due to current hospital covid restrictions

Piper22 · 28/03/2022 22:15

Instead of working your way through reams and reams of names, it might be worth you just waiting to meet her. You’ll soon find a name that fits

bakewellbride · 28/03/2022 22:13

Our baby girl is called Charlotte.

I also like Amelie, Eloise and Alice. Dh likes willow.

Kona84 · 28/03/2022 22:12

My name list while pregnant was:

Clementine
Imogen
Hazel
Rosie
Sarah
Agnes
Lucy
Margot

We went with Edith

Kona84 · 28/03/2022 22:09

I had about 8 girls names picked out (didn’t know if we were having a boy or a girl).
But none of them were right for my girl, it wasn’t until about a week with her that we found her name.

I would say wait Until you meet her, wait until you see her face and features before naming her.

@newnameforthistbread I am supposed to register baby 21 days after birth- don't have six weeks where I live. I don't necessarily need to have completely chosen before birth but would feel better if I had a shortlist.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Some of them are a maybe - and perhaps a name will grow on me.

We had a shortlist of 2 for each of our children, then decided when the baby was born to see which one seemed to suit best. Took the pressure off a bit. Might that be worth considering as an approach, just for now?

Dinoteeth · 28/03/2022 21:58

I like Hannah and it made it to my very short girls short list but some how I think of it as an English name. I also like Grace, Heather and Flora.

LizzieMacQueen · 28/03/2022 21:58

My favourites.

Ishbel
Helen
Eilidh
Alison

ChangeAndHelp · 28/03/2022 21:57

Nora

Or

Saskia

(One do those is my dd)

lovescaca · 28/03/2022 21:50

@New30

I'm the same! 26 weeks and can't think of any girl names I like. With my ds (4) we knew what he was getting called before we even conceived 🤣🤣

newnameforthistbread · 28/03/2022 21:48

You have six weeks after baby arrives to decide! See what they look like, try a few names out in the first few days. Don't worry, they won't still be Baby Pear when they are celebrating their 21st!

Barleysugar85 · 28/03/2022 21:46

I love Cora, has a similar sound to Aurora and the simplicity of Anna?

Strokethefurrywall · 28/03/2022 21:46

I struggled with girls names too.

I really love Saoirse, Alannah, Leah, Cara and Hazel. I'm also fond of Piper, Harper, and Celeste.

Sprucewillis · 28/03/2022 21:45

Baby names? Did you mean girls names?

I think it sometimes helps to hold your baby. The name I chose in the end for my daughter was the feminised version of a boys name I loved Thanks

@PebbleMillAtOne did you comment on the wrong post?
I don't think I would go for Kitty-Mae - although maybe as a nickname its not terrible.

@JungleJimbo

I like all the names you said in your OP so may have similar taste

How about-
Verity
Bryony
Camilla
Tessa

Emma, Hannah, Sarah and Laura are due a revival in my view and I think are a similar vibe to Anna and Alice

These are nice names but I can't imagine using them somehow and some associated with people I know/knew growing up.

Hannah is a possibility - my DH actually likes it. But it's the name of someone I knew who died so I am not sure about the association- although she was a very lovely person so maybe it would honour her.

Remember the child will live with the name forever.. you may find Kitty-Mae a cute baby now but when’s she’s 27 will she

GreenOrangePear · 28/03/2022 21:34

@New30

Oh my goodness! I could have written this most…even down to some of the names, difference being I only have 5 days! I have a little boy and thought their were loads of good girl names but now I feel there aren’t!!! Really really struggling!
@new30 I'm glad it's not just me. It's like I think there are lots of good names but they would all be good names for my friend's baby not mine... Hope you find something. Or maybe the baby will come out and a name will come to you? (that's my plan B - hoping when the baby arrives I will look at her and a name just comes to me...?)
