Spencer or Joseph?

Just that really, we have girls names but cannot for the life of us come up with a boy's name we like. These two are the only two and it's because we like the short versions too (Joey, Spence). What do you think?

I should add that Joseph is very much an old person's name in my country. It sounds perfectly nice but if I heard the name I'd assume the bearer to be in his 90s...

organicoatmilk · 30/03/2022 03:22

I love Spencer! Not so keen on Joseph as a first name.

Marty13 · 30/03/2022 03:22

How about Jacob if you like Jack ? Similar sound. Or Caleb ?

Tbh I'm not keen on either Joseph or Spencer, if I had to pick one of the two then I vote Joseph because Spencer sounds very surnamey and american to me (Disclaimer : I'm not british so take this for what it's worth). And Joey is a nicer nickname.

Have you looked at other Jo- names ? Joachim ? Joel ? Jonathan ?

Joseph 100%. Wonderful name, works on all ages and suits all personalities.

TootsAtOwls · 29/03/2022 21:17

Spencer makes me think of Frank!

Joseph is lovely though. Soft but strong Smile

bambi1132 · 29/03/2022 21:15

Spencer is awful. Reminds me of the vile guy from Made in Chelsea and Spencer Pratt from the hills

Joseph is lovely and a classic, also suitable for all age stages

PinkSyCo · 29/03/2022 21:08

Definitely Joseph. Spencer is awful.

Sunflower987 · 29/03/2022 21:05

Spencer, such a lovely name.

DogsAndGin · 29/03/2022 20:59

Joseph

floppybit · 29/03/2022 19:26

Spencer is a cool name!

howoriginal · 29/03/2022 19:25

Joseph, but I'm biased because that's my sons name. It's a classic. His Nicknames are Joe, Joey and José (live in a Spanish speaking country so it works!). Mostly gets called Joey at the moment but I can imagine as he gets older he'll prefer Joseph.

RiverRats · 29/03/2022 19:08

Spencer

Buttercup54321 · 29/03/2022 19:07

Joseph. Nn Joe. Joey sounds like a budgie!
Would Spencers middle nane be Mark? Grin

ILoveShula · 29/03/2022 12:42

Joseph

MrsBertBibby · 29/03/2022 05:01

Joseph, by far. Fantastic name.

ButterRose · 29/03/2022 03:25

How about instead of Asher try Aiden or Austin
Instead of Joseph try Jonah or instead of Spencer try Spruce or Sawyer

TheLadyDIdGood · 29/03/2022 03:14

Spencer is reality TV and a surname but Joseph is a beautiful classic name. I've known a few Joseph's who go by Joe and they're lovely chaps.

Sebastian is another favourite under used name which I love and Seb makes a cool nn.

Luredbyapomegranate · 29/03/2022 03:04

Joseph, a classic, you can’t go wrong

Spencer makes me think of side boy estate agents

MaidEdithofAragon · 28/03/2022 23:56

Joseph by far. Classic and beautiful. Spencer will date.

JaneJeffer · 28/03/2022 23:55

Joseph for sure

DramaAlpaca · 28/03/2022 23:53

Joseph is nice.

I thoroughly dislike Spencer.

WeasilyPleased · 28/03/2022 23:51

Joseph. Classic, strong but gentle. The one in our family gets called Guiseppe as a nn!

Theresamagicalplace · 28/03/2022 16:30

Archer not Asher!

Thanks for the opinions! Seems quite even at the minute which hasn't helped 😂. The name Asher someone suggested was one we considered but it didn't work with the surname unfortunately and the other name I loved was jack but with our other son's name it just made them sound like nursery rhyme characters. Any other suggestions very welcome!

Joseph.

Spencer feels very 80s/90s to me. Partly because of Spencer from Big Brother and Spencer from The Hills.
