Beautiful and timeless or a bit boring?

Beautiful on a girl in England but it's very very very common in some places and that puts me off.

peaceinourtime · 28/03/2022 23:13

It's classic and very nice. To echo one of the previous posts it would be a refreshing change from Alice which is a name that I've never understood is so popular.

WaitinginVain · 28/03/2022 22:30

I love Maria. Much nicer than Marianna.

16HamstersCalledThemAllDave · 28/03/2022 19:17

Gosh I am in the minority as I don't like it at all. Very dated to me. May be my age Grin

blocknbuild · 28/03/2022 19:11

Beautiful name

TheWayTheLightFalls · 28/03/2022 18:52

Very religious.

stuffedpeppaa · 28/03/2022 18:49

Most common name globally. Most common girls name in London. Popular with religious groups like travellers and hispanics. Lovely name. Like Mary and Marina too.

Thedogscollar · 28/03/2022 18:01

Maria.......all the beautiful sounds of the world in a single word.

Can't get better than that OP.
It is a beautiful timeless classic name that suits any age group.

canyoubelievethat · 28/03/2022 18:01

Love Maria! Prefer it to Marianna.

demoness · 28/03/2022 17:35

I think it's lovely. Elegant, timeless, multicultural, never overused in the UK.

Kanaloa · 28/03/2022 17:31

I far prefer Maria to Marianna. Maria is more simple and elegant. I think any middle name could really be nice with Maria. It would go with lots of different names. Perhaps a family name or a name you like but wouldn’t necessarily use as a first name.

Adventing · 28/03/2022 15:12

Beautiful, name, more classic than Mia imo. I know one whos 6 and another who must be about 8 now. I also went to school with one who would be mid 30s now, I feel like it's fairly timeless

Nosetickle · 28/03/2022 15:04

Lovely, I think Marianna is prettier and more unusual but might cause pronunciation issues. Marry-ar-nah or Marry-a-na, I prefer the former pronunciation.

WinterCarlisle · 28/03/2022 15:00

Beautiful

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 28/03/2022 14:59

I like it. Must be one of the world's most common girls' names I should think.

You could do as the English did in the 18th/19th century and pronounce it Mariah. But I think that sounds so stuffy.

Cluelessmouse · 28/03/2022 14:56

Timeless classic

Lilaclavenders · 28/03/2022 14:56

Very religious!

SallyWD · 28/03/2022 14:54

It is my number 1 female name. I absolutely love it. It's beautiful, timeless and strong. I love the fact that it's not fashionable. If I had a daughter tomorrow she'd be Maria!

RubyFruitSunday · 28/03/2022 14:40

When I was a small I remember going on holiday and making friends with a lovely Norweigan girl called Maria. She was always smiling, had the blondest of blonde hair and was sooo nice! So Maria reminds me of her and I think its beautiful and would be very refreshing on a little one.

Pandypuff · 28/03/2022 14:34

Thank you everyone!

Do you prefer Maria or Marianna?

And what middle name do you like?

OP posts:
NurseBernard · 28/03/2022 07:44

It’s lovely.

I picture it on a raven-haired beauty. Can’t imagine a blond Maria.

Just like I struggle to imagine a dark/haired Jane.

Bancha · 28/03/2022 07:42

Really lovely!

Howdiditgetsobad · 28/03/2022 07:42

Beautiful. It is a family name for me (Italian) and I would have used it for a second DD although DH was not keen.

OrangeAndYellowAndBlue · 28/03/2022 07:37

One of my favourites - I think it's lovely. I've known some excellent Marias.

user1477391263 · 28/03/2022 01:54

Maria is a great name. It's genuinely classic and "could" belong to a person of any age, but has never been used all that much in the UK. I think it would be a nice change to meet a little Maria.
