Thought I had my heart set on Rory but kind of like the name woody.
Not sure if I'm cool enough for a unique name Grin my girls are izzie and Lilly so not unusual just wondering if it'll go? Or if that even matters Confused

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I wouldn't recommend it. Too many unwanted connotations. Plus, to me it sounds more like a nickname than an actual given name.

Calandor · 27/03/2022 22:56

Love it. I had a friend named Woodrow (nickname Woody). He's 26 and it's never caused him any issues.

Luredbyapomegranate · 27/03/2022 22:55

@thebabynanny

Like an erection?
Quite..

NO. Don’t be insane.

As a nn for Edward it’s ok, I suppose

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 27/03/2022 21:55

Woody Allen is a Heywood.

HellToTheNope · 27/03/2022 21:55

Why not Boner?

🙄

Hercisback · 27/03/2022 21:54

As in erection?

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 27/03/2022 21:53

Woody Guthrie and Woody Harrelson were both named Woodrow.

MyLifeNow20 · 27/03/2022 21:52

My friend's horse is called Woody! But I do know a human called Woodrow

JayeAshe · 27/03/2022 21:51

Seriously???

EveSix · 27/03/2022 21:51

I really like it. I like Woody Harrelson and Woody Guthrie quite a bit, Woody Allen not so much. The idea of it being short for Edward is neat, gives you other options to fall back on.

urbanbuddha · 27/03/2022 21:50

Fine as a nn but not as a given name.

DukeofEarlGrey · 27/03/2022 21:47

Definite no for all the reasons already given!

britneyisfree · 27/03/2022 21:46

Prefer Buzz.

Terriblecreature · 27/03/2022 21:42

I love it personally and considered it for one of my boys. I would go for it!

Onthetoadagain · 27/03/2022 21:41

Nickname for Edward?

NativityDreaming · 27/03/2022 21:25

Terrible connotations for the name, it’s just mean.

alexdgr8 · 27/03/2022 21:25

No. that is a nickname, not a proper name. imagine in the high court,
his honour mr woody smith, presiding.
don't limit his aspirations by silly names.
he's as likely to want to be an accountant, auditor, funeral director, as a dancer, pop star, artist, so don't pick comical names.

BadgeronaMoped · 27/03/2022 21:24

Ooh, and I just thought, I like Woody Harrelson... Suits him!

BadgeronaMoped · 27/03/2022 21:24

We had a lad called Woodie at school because of his surname, suited him and nobody made fun of him. That was pre-Toy Story though. I've seen it said on these boards before, kids are used to so-called "out there" names, they don't bat an eyelid.

Oliack1417 · 27/03/2022 21:22

There's a Woody in my sons reception class. It's cute.

LubaLuca · 27/03/2022 21:22

It's a bit of fun, which is okay for a pet's name.

AmbushedByCake1 · 27/03/2022 21:21

I love it. I know a six year old called that & it really suits him.

Trinacham · 27/03/2022 21:20

As PP said, it means something rude now.. I couldn't ever use it!

Zonder · 27/03/2022 21:20

I love it. But then I'm a Woody Guthrie fan. I think for other people there might be more negative connections ranging from erections to Toy Story via a paedo film director.

Cyclingforcake · 27/03/2022 21:20

The one I know has Edward on his birth certificate
