Opinions on the name Woody

Thought I had my heart set on Rory but kind of like the name woody.
Not sure if I'm cool enough for a unique name Grin my girls are izzie and Lilly so not unusual just wondering if it'll go? Or if that even matters Confused

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

We seriously contemplated calling DS1 Woody.
Instead he got a very common boys name. He's 14 now and says that is one of the few things we got right, and is horrified we considered calling him Woody.
So I say, no.

Woodpecker
Harrelson
Allen

One's a cartoon character, the other 2 are unpleasant men

I don't like it for the reasons already said, Toy Story and Woody Allen. If it wasn't for that, I don't think I'd like it anyway though. Rory is much nicer.

Zonder · 28/03/2022 08:28

Do none of you know anyone called Dick? Really? Not in a younger generation but my parents age.

There's opinions then there's just being rude.

ProperVexed · 28/03/2022 07:42

Every day is a school day! I'm 55 and had no idea that Woody was slang for erection.

Lilaclavenders · 28/03/2022 07:41

And Norman Cook doesn't exactly have good tastes in names as he chose his own name, Norman..!

NurseBernard · 28/03/2022 07:34

And quite frankly, Dick and Willy are even more ridiculous than Woody.

BottleBrushTree · 28/03/2022 07:33

@Zonder

People saying erection, are you as rude to people called Dick or Willy?

I've just remembered that Zoe Ball and Norman Cook had a son called Woody too. I wonder if people were as rude to them.

OP is asking for opinions 🙄
BottleBrushTree · 28/03/2022 07:32

Only if you want him to get penis jokes at school

This is the baby names forum - where people ASK for opinions. On baby names.

If you can’t cope with it, hide the forum/thread.

NurseBernard · 28/03/2022 07:29

Zoe and Norman got away with it 20-odd years ago because they were the epitome of 90s cool.

I certainly wouldn’t say anything to anyone’s face - but I’d be judging the parents big time.

PenguinPup · 28/03/2022 07:28

No. Poor thing going through life having to deal with the jokes.

Lilaclavenders · 28/03/2022 07:25

Tidlo · 28/03/2022 07:24

Why would you name your child after an erect penis?

Tsubasa1 · 28/03/2022 07:22

Awful

Lilaclavenders · 28/03/2022 07:19

I would absolutely think wtf were his parents thinking!

I wouldn’t be rude to them, I would wonder WTF their parents were thinking.
Kanaloa · 28/03/2022 06:38

I mean I don’t know anyone called Dick and I’ve never met anyone named Willy. But yeah I would tell a parent considering the names dick and Willy that they’re not that nice and common names for a penis.

Brings to mind spike from Buffy saying ‘Randy Giles? Why didn’t you just call me desperate for a shag Giles?’

Kanaloa · 27/03/2022 23:41

Just horrible. I try not to say stuff like that on baby names board and generally will admit that a name is fine just not my taste/not as nice as x name. But woody is just a horrible name for a baby/little boy/teenager/man.

Babadook76 · 27/03/2022 23:39

Woody as in a stiff dick?

DramaAlpaca · 27/03/2022 23:39

It's dreadful.

Rory is lovely, a much better choice.

Loginmystery · 27/03/2022 23:37

@AmbushedByCake1

I love it. I know a six year old called that & it really suits him.
I wonder if it’s the same little boy I know. London?
Lilaclavenders · 27/03/2022 23:35

There's a Woody in my sons reception class. It's cute.

Cute? Confused

A woody is an erection...!
