I like it but not too sure on how the name is viewed. Any thoughts?

I like Romy. It's traditionally short for Rosemary, which is old fashioned now but still a very pretty name.

organicoatmilk · 22/03/2022 22:25

I've never met someone named Romy but I like it! Smile

ellecf21 · 22/03/2022 20:55

I like the sound of it but not the spelling for some reason. Romy just doesn't look like a real name on paper if that makes sense. Prefer the spelling Romee.

@CoffeeBeansGalore

Prefer Romilly or Remy. Know a lovely Remy.
Remy is a French bloke’s name 😕
Luredbyapomegranate · 22/03/2022 20:21

It’s ok?

Not very distinguished but getting quite popular

I think Romilly is better as a full name

isthisit83 · 22/03/2022 19:15

I don't like it. Hadn't realized it was Boris' kids name. Tbh, I don't think that connection will last long as he won't be in power forever.

Allthebubbles · 22/03/2022 19:14

Love it! I know a really inspirational one, short for Romina..

CoffeeBeansGalore · 22/03/2022 19:13

Prefer Romilly or Remy. Know a lovely Remy.

Dreamingof3 · 22/03/2022 18:55

I quite like it but put off by the Boris connection. Also like Rumi

WaitinginVain · 22/03/2022 16:18

I really like Romy and also Roma.

Not keen on Romilly at all

Graceyland · 22/03/2022 16:08

Thanks everyone! I had originally ruled it out and not given it any further thought due to the boris connection but I’m really struggling to come up with any names I like this time round. Think I need to be a bit less fussy!

Never knew the Romillie/Romilly connection which I quite like but not sure my husband will go for that!

I really like it, I heard it a couple of years ago on Spiral a French crime series on TV and thought it was a lovely name.

Buttercup54321 · 22/03/2022 15:44

Sounds like someone cant pronounce Rosemary.

cumonilean · 22/03/2022 15:43

Love it

IsThePopeCatholic · 22/03/2022 15:39

I liked it before Johnson used it.

bloominglovelyorange · 22/03/2022 15:35

It's nice but bear in mind it's very similar to Roman which is the fastest rising boy name , now uk top 30. I know quite a few baby Romans called either Rome or Romy so although the specific name Romy is fairly unusual it feels really common as it's similar to Roman's nicknames and also very similar to Rory which is another of the top rising boy names

RoostasTowel · 22/03/2022 13:21

*Bojo

Oh well, I suppose Dodo suits him.

canyoubelievethat · 22/03/2022 13:20

Love it.

RoostasTowel · 22/03/2022 13:19

Is it pronounced Romey or Rommy?

Either way I just think of Dodo.

TatianaBis · 22/03/2022 13:19

Much prefer Romilly and Romy as a dim.

whatausername · 22/03/2022 11:07

BJ's baby. Also, Romy sounds a bit nothingy. Inoffensive and not super common though

caecilius1 · 22/03/2022 10:54

Horrible

demoness · 22/03/2022 10:47

I think it's nice. I first heard of it years ago through Romy Schneider (an Austrian actress who was most famous in the 1950s/60s). I don't think the Boris Johnson baby thing is a big deal, personally. It's not like he invented the name or it was completely unknown before he used it.

UmmWhatThe · 22/03/2022 10:43

Love it

ilovebencooper · 22/03/2022 10:43

I'm not keen as it always seems a bit nothingy- a bit bland?
