You don't hear this name too much anymore (or at least I don't!).

What are peoples opinions please?

And would you spell Jody as above, or Jodie?

Thanks!

It reminds me of Jodie Foster. I don't think it's a bad name but it is rather dated. It's kind of a mum name at this point.

I've never met a male Jodie. I wasn't aware it was even used for boys.

SemperIdem · 24/03/2022 13:59

It’s not a horrible name but does seem to have a “downmarket” perception. As does my own (different) name 🤷🏻‍♀️

peaceinourtime · 23/03/2022 22:38

Boy or girl?, relevant.
There both nice. I think for males the name Jody is more popular in the US. It's still good though.

AuntDympna · 21/03/2022 18:39

Nice, feels Antipodean to me (no idea why).
Weird that anyone thinks it's chavvy. I only ever met one, she is 14 and quite posh.
Is there some random council estate where it is a local name?

babysleephelp · 20/03/2022 17:43

Good to hear of Jodie's who are proud of their name and achievements 👏🙌

@JodienotJody

Imagine it on an adult professional? Just, no.

I'm an adult professional called Jodie. I'm a senior academic at a university. I'm the youngest Head of Department at my institution and I travel the world talking about my subject.

Being called Jodie clearly hasn't held me back 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hi Jodie 👋 I’m also a professional too in a very competitive field so it hasn’t held me back either! ☺️
Dmsandfloatydress · 20/03/2022 13:09

I like it but only for a boy. However, the only man I know with that name hates it and goes by Joe.

KirstenBlest · 20/03/2022 12:39

Jodie is nice as is Joely

JodienotJody · 20/03/2022 12:39
@JodienotJody love that! You're a genius!
It was a memorable moment 😂

InFiveMins · 20/03/2022 12:25

I really like it.

ReeseWitherfork · 20/03/2022 12:22

@JodienotJody love that! You're a genius!

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 20/03/2022 12:20

Agree. It's chavvy.

Imagine it on an adult professional? Just, no.

I know a doctor called Jodie so it's not exactly taxing my imagination to imagine it on other adult professionals.

JodienotJody · 20/03/2022 12:12

Crikey, I'd have thought the biggest drawback of being called Jodie/Jody was constantly being told that Jimmy quit.

Haha I played that song at my wedding and loved shouting ' and Jodie got married' 😂😂
VivienneDelacroix · 20/03/2022 11:20

I like it for a boy, not so much for a girl.

Titsflyingsouth · 20/03/2022 10:24

Really dislike it for either sex. However the only two people I've knew called Jodie were nasty vicious bullies - so my view is tainted.

JodienotJody · 20/03/2022 10:22

What holds people back is others prejudices over a name. Not the name.

It's like naming your child Sebastian thinking it'll stop them being a thug and ending up in prison!

A name doesn't make a person.

Absolutely! I couldn't agree more!!
It's never, ever occurred to me that it was a name worthy of judgement! The only issue I've had is people not spelling it correctly. I get Jody an awful lot.

I'm a Jodie Louise too - I noticed your suggestion that it goes well together 😊

Crunchymum · 20/03/2022 09:27

It's a bit dated. Definitely the name of girls I went to school with (along with Danielle, Joanne, Natalie etc)

Nothing wrong with it per se though.

@Scaredofburnout

I’m a Jodie ☺️Late 20s, I don’t mind my name it’s definitely unusual. But some amazing actresses with the namer recently (Jodie Comer and Jodie Whittaker)
Hi Jodie! 👋🏻
JodienotJody · 20/03/2022 09:02

@SouthernGothic

My name’s Jodie and I’m here to stand in solidarity with JodienotJody! I was named after Jody from The Red Pony by John Steinbeck. I’ve always liked my (our!) name because it’s unusual and unisex.
Hi Jodie!

I've always loved our name too. I like that it's easily recognisable as a name but not so common that every other woman my age is called it.
My best friend is Claire and there's three in our friendship group alone!

I speak in public a lot for my job and I've never been embarrassed to announce my name in public and it's never crossed my mind that people might think it's 'chavvy'!

itsgettingweird · 20/03/2022 07:33

@Roselilly36

I love Jody (boy) or Jodie (girl) great choice.
Another who agrees with this.

Jody John or Jodie Louise sound nice to me.

Happymiraclemorning · 20/03/2022 07:19

I love Jodie, I had Josie on my list so similar

greenteafiend · 20/03/2022 02:40

Not keen. Sounds like a name for a labrador.
