Who was the most beautiful girl in your year at school?

BiscuitLover3678 · 19/03/2022 12:50

Mine was Juliette. The other ‘pretty girls’ were Luisa, Holly and then there were a few Rebecca/Rachels.

What were the names of the pretty people?

Just looking for my name. Wink

But on a serious note, there was no one terribly beautiful that I can recall. I didn’t really go in for beauty contests at that age.

Claire and Helen. At university, Hannah and Melanie.

It was Tracey in our year at high school so don't think names associate with attractiveness Wink.

No idea. Genuinely didn't see anyone as pretty. I guess I don't look for that superficial bullshit.

I don't remember anyone at secondary being particularly pretty, not even the cool/popular ones. A few were 'striking' but I wouldn't have wanted to look like any of them. There was a girl called Danielle when I was in year 6 who was really beautiful though - she was nice too, which seems to be a rare combination!! She had tanned skin, a slim hourglass figure, great teeth and brown eyes. When I was younger there was a girl called Jenna who I thought was very pretty too, English rose with lots of soft blondey-brown hair and she somehow made her uniform look 'cool'. But the most beautiful was my imaginary friend Diamond - she was stunning! Dark brown hair and sparkly dark eyes but pale skin. She disappeared by the time I left infant school... Wonder what she's up to these days?

God, a girl called Libby in high school and a girl called Emma in college who blossomed over the summer of year eleven.

At the time they were the envy of all. Girls wanted to be them, boys wanted to go out with them.

I found some old pictures recently and Libby had somehow developed an underbite and full braces whilst Emma had a very stern, malicious squint whenever she looked at you (caught in one picture). In hindsight, both weren't nice girls, they were very gossipy, cliquey and knew how popular/pretty they were. High school is a very strange vacuum of time and we remember it with rosy tinted glasses.

Often when we look back in the cold light of day it was our own insecurities that made these girls so amazing. Libby's mum was a hairdresser and would do her hair for school every morning whilst I struggled so much so whilst I had a wonky pony tail and a dismal side fringe Libby had an ornate messy bun and a wonderfully styled Hilary Duff 2008 bangs.

Emma had a really close relationship with her Dad and always talked about them going to gigs, how funny he was, days out, holidays etc when my Dad died during high school and I was so envious of that.

In hindsight both were just very plain and average girls with something I desperately wanted in myself. I'm sure it was the case for many others. You were all beautiful in school.

FiveGoToAsda · 19/03/2022 15:32

Sarah. Sadly not a nice person.

Actually, looking back I've realised that many of the "pretty" girls were fairly ordinary, and confident /popular which somehow projected an image of prettiness. And at the same time there were some beautiful girls who were more reserved/ didn't hang out with the cool kids and no-one really noticed their looks

All very shallow, this, obviously!

SnowWhiteLobelia · 19/03/2022 15:23

@Lovecatsanddogs

Natascha McElhone was in my year and she was beautiful then as now. She was also lovely.
Oh she is utterly stunning IMO. Such an unusual face.

Do you know Ive never even thought about it. Jenny had really pretty eyes, Kate and Laura (x2) were very pretty. At uni it was rachel.

5zeds · 19/03/2022 15:20

Mercy had beautiful wildly curly hair and seemed nice enough though not in my “group”. I don’t think we cared about who was pretty though.

It’s a bit sad to hear someone automatically putting down a mum of 7 and assuming her life was less interesting than others. It’s an unconventional life choice but not less.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 19/03/2022 15:09

We were a simple bunch. If somebody had long, thick blonde hair with a thick and even fringe and blue eyes, they were instantly 'the pretty ones'. Wasn't possible to be pretty if you were darkhaired, red haired, curly haired, freckled or a different ethnicity.

As a result, Michelle and Pauline were officially the Pretty Girls. And their names were first on the register, which clearly confirmed it (nobody explained to us that it was done in alphabetical order).
