Inspired by another thread, what do you think of the name Clara? And what kind of a person do you think of when you hear this name?

@estoybien

I'm not a fan. To me it sounds like a clunky version between Cara and Lara and too hard a sound at the beginning. But it seems to be a popular choice. I much prefer either Cara and Lara, both lovely names.

Its lovely

Whitewolf2 · 22/03/2022 16:57

I love it, it was in my top names. To me it’s feminine and also a bit feisty!

Hobbesmanc · 22/03/2022 16:26

I think it sounds a little too old school Germanic. I love the name Clarice though- pronounced Cla-riss like Clarice Cliff, not Cla-rees like Clarice Starling

Glitterheart · 21/03/2022 21:08

My second daughter is also a Clara. Brilliant choice OP! My 3 year old Clara is a gorgeous, fiesty little character and her name suits her well 😊

irishfarmer · 21/03/2022 16:31

Glad you like it. I'm due this summer and if it's a girl that's the name we are going for :)

@Littlebutload That was a small concern of mine. I live about an hour away and until maybe 5 years ago I had never heard of the town so I'm going ahead. Not sure if I'd use it though if it was the next town over from where I'm from and family/ friends would be like ok......

DogsAndGin · 20/03/2022 19:46

It makes me think of someone serious, studious, maybe selfish and although it’s an inoffensive name, it makes me think of a boring person. No idea why. Sorry

trainnane · 19/03/2022 22:19

I know 3. All are strong willed & sporty

BaggiesBride · 19/03/2022 21:27

Beautiful name.

Littlebutload · 19/03/2022 21:14

I think it's a lovely name. It's also the name of a town near where my husband grew up in Ireland and therefore I can never use it! Smile

LaLaLouella · 19/03/2022 14:07

Beautiful and underused - baby name jackpot!

FayCarew · 19/03/2022 14:03

I don't like it. Cara is nicer

speckledeggshell · 19/03/2022 10:01

I can clarify that I think Clara is fine. I recently bought a clarinet on Klarna for Clarence.

The name has a lovely meaning and I absolutely adore the the Nutcracker.. I'm not keen on the Clar sound personally. I prefer the sound of Cara. If Slara was a name I'd still pick Sara.

In the Top 100 baby names in England & Wales Clara is 90th and Zara is 73rd.
Lara comes in at 101st place.

Interestingly Zara is in the top 20 baby names for girls most common among billionaires. Do you like Claire?

HomeHomeInTheRange · 19/03/2022 09:16

I like Clara.

Classic, literary.

WasntAllThat · 19/03/2022 09:07

I think it’s a beautiful name. Dignified. I liked it a lot when I was pregnant but our surname has a long A sound (think Clara Larson) and it was a mouthful.

PoxyAndIKnowIt · 19/03/2022 09:04

I think it sounds strong and elegant. Glad it’s having a revival.

Dumbledoressister · 19/03/2022 08:45

It's pretty and works for all ages. I like it.

RedPinkRose · 19/03/2022 08:44

Love it. I think of the book Heidi.

GivenchyDahhling · 19/03/2022 08:40

Currently pregnant and if the baby is a girl it will be Clara, mainly after the Nutcracker. Husband and I both adore it.

MsTSwift · 19/03/2022 08:37

I don’t have one and actually don’t know any. Most girls round here are called an Eve name, Lily or Olivia. So makes a nice change!

MsTSwift · 19/03/2022 08:35

I don’t find it twee at all. I like that it’s quite strong - cannot bear weak names for girls (Millie /Poppy/Honey) etc urgh

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/03/2022 08:08

Nice, popular

It’s a wee bit twee so I probably wouldn’t use it

delshell · 19/03/2022 07:01

@Darinka91

It's lovely to get such a positive response to it, I didn't want to influence any of the answers but we named our 2nd baby Clara and I was having some name regrets for a long time. Only recently I've started to accept it, she was 3 months old a few days ago. I know it's silly but knowing that so many people love it, makes me love it more and not worry about whether it's nice enough for her if you know what I mean
We have a baby Clara and we've had so many positive comments about her name. I think it's a beautiful name. And I think my love of the name has grown as she has grown because my associations with the name are now so closely tied to her and the beautiful, happy little girl she is. Hope you experience the same! xx
EachandEveryone · 18/03/2022 22:14

Its very very popular in London its up there with Leo a boy. Both lovely names but I bet its in the top five soon.

Fantail999 · 18/03/2022 22:11

It's the name of my grandmother's dog.
There are quite a few Clara/Klaras in Y1 at school. The one we know well is extremely bossy and stubborn. She's very overbearing. I've been completely put off the name.
