I really like Ruby and have never met one despite its popularity.

I like unexpected middle names rather than the usual Rose, Grace, Elizabeth etc

Not a big fan of Ruby. It was massively popular about ten years ago.

Feels like one of those names that’s hyphenated with the obligatory May/Grace.

It's a traditional name in my family and I love it.
It's also Cockney rhyming slang for a curry, after Ruby Murray, who was a singer, but I wouldn't let that put me off Smile

Poor old Ruby in Upstairs Downstairs could only dream of being a parlour maid. Kitchen duties only for her.

It feels a bit 2010. There must be lots of teen girls with this name. But it's a nice round word to say aloud (if that makes any sense) and has a warm and friendly vibe.

Personally I don't find Ruby very elegant or beautiful sounding.

Ruby is elegant yet cute, and suits all ages. It seems quite rare, too. I know only one Ruby, and she's in her 20s.
For a middle name, I'd suggest something starting with a consonant that isn't B!
