Thoughts on Paulette?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

To me it seems dated and it lacks namesakes or references to make it appealing.

ISmellBurnings · 13/03/2022 22:09

No, awful.

Lilette reminds me of Gilette :)

I watched "Grease" several times and remember her face but would never have remembered the name.

To me it is a very 1920s French-chic sort of name.

Thanks for reminding me of Lettie, I actually love it.

I also love medieval Lettice but wouldn't use it for obvious reasons.

What's the point of growing a poor baby for 9 months just to call it Paulette.

Zillamop · 13/03/2022 21:03

I think it's OK, although Paula sounds more refreshing to me.

I like some of the other -ette names like Juliette, Colette, Annette, Georgette, Linette.

sanityisamyth · 13/03/2022 20:57

Sounds like a brand of sanitary products.

ImInStealthMode · 13/03/2022 20:56

Paulette...

Paulette
NoSquirrels · 13/03/2022 20:53

Know a fab Paulette- but I’m personally not a fan of feminised male names (Paulette/Pauline; Nigella; Erica; Edwina; Henrietta etc)

stimpyyouidiot · 13/03/2022 20:49

I know a Paulina

Chloemol · 13/03/2022 20:47

I know a Paulette, but she has abbreviated to lettie

ISpyCobraKai · 13/03/2022 20:46

I'm singing the song from Grease 2.
Brilliant film, terrible name.

Imissmoominmama · 13/03/2022 20:44

I love it; it’s the name of my beautiful friend.

AmandaStaveleysBlackNWhiteArmy · 13/03/2022 20:43

Grease 2. ‘Hey Paulette take a look over here, I’m you’re kingpin honey and I’m getting in gear’.

‘She’s suffering from a disease…. Nymphoidmania’

Bloody love Grease2, far superior in every way to Grease. But yeah. Probs wouldn’t call my kid Paulette.

Wingingthis · 13/03/2022 20:43

Paulina is much nicer imo

canyoubelievethat · 13/03/2022 20:40

I think I like it! I'm sure there was a character on call the midwife with this name.

Lurking9to5 · 13/03/2022 20:39

Paulette Bonafonte! From Legally Blonde, One of my favourite films.

HumunaHey · 13/03/2022 20:38

How about Lilette then? Grin

Lurking9to5 · 13/03/2022 20:37

I agree, it's kind of retro.

I like Paola over Paula. Pauline sounds very ordinary but although I would have hated Paulette a few years ago, now it sounds pretty but not too frilly.

Snowbell99 · 13/03/2022 20:35

@MurderAtTheBeautyPageant

It's in the category of Yvonne, Yvette, Jacqueline type names that were all the rage in the 60s. You're just ahead of your time. Some of the people who think it's awful should gird their loins for 25 years from now when they're introduced to a grandaughter with this style of name.
Yes, it already seems sort of retro-cool to me.

After so many years of seeing girls with names ending in -a, -ia, -y names ending in -ette or -een or -e seem like such a nice breath of fresh air to me.

Even though I do love Lily and some other common names.

propertealady · 13/03/2022 20:35

I'm going to go against the grain and say I love it.

Gonnagetgoing · 13/03/2022 20:30

For me no. I’ve heard of girls called Paulette but sounds very dated to me.
