Thoughts please! (We live abroad so no weird suck-y associations with Sukie here. An odd comment but something I've heard people mention before when Suki was asked about Grin)

I love Susannah & Suzanne. They normally shorten to Susie/Suzie.

Suki is a completely different name! It's Japanese.

BadHairDayExpert · 13/03/2022 13:21

Suki on its own, it is Japanese and means loved one iirc

Waitingwaiting3 · 13/03/2022 13:00

I love Suki! It’s a Japanese name in its own right. You don’t have to make it a nickname for anything.

I’m not sure which country you’re in but I think in some countries Suki would be acceptable as a name. I think there’s a model called Suki Waterhouse and I also have penchant for animes so I’m probably biased Easter Smile

I love Susannah & Suzanne, would choose it if I’d had a daughter now.
All the potential nicknames are great imo.

Susannah.

And I prefer the spelling Sukey for the diminutive.

@Palavah

I'm afraid i hear Suki and think of 'pukey', or a neighbour's cat.

The coolest Susannahs I've known have been Susannah or Suse/Suze

Luckily the slang 'puke' doesn't exist here either Grin

As for it being a cat name... One of my other daughters is a Tabitha and I wanted Felix for my son but DH vetoed. Maybe deep down I secretely wanted cats 😂

In our country nicknames are assigned by parents (or grandparents) and remain the same. They don't emerge naturally and people wouldn't dare to try and change someone's set name. Sorry, should have mentioned this before! (Nicknames also don't even need to have any connection to the first name of the person, but this bothers me!)

Just Suki. Susannah is a completely different name in my opinion

Susannah is lovely. I don’t think you can insist on a nickname, though — the Susannah I know is Suze to her friends, Susannah at work, and ‘Nan’ in her family, for instance.

AnnieandMiri · 13/03/2022 10:37

We adore Sukie and it works very well where we live. But I also like that Susannah could also be a Susie or an Annie if she wanted to, and I like the biblical association with Susannah.
