Thoughts please! (We live abroad so no weird suck-y associations with Sukie here. An odd comment but something I've heard people mention before when Suki was asked about Grin)

If you like the name Sukie call her that on its own. Of the Susannahs/Susanas I've known they have gone by the whole name or Suz.

Suzi888 · 16/03/2022 10:24

Stackhouse Grin loved that show!

@HoliHormonalTigerlilly

I mean the name is spelled Sukhy. It's usually short for Sukvinder. It's cute.
I think that might be a different name altogether? Sukie is a Hebrew name, Suki Japanese, and Sukey a nickname for Susannah. All three are different names. Maybe Sukhy is another similar name! Smile

@FlamingoDust

I love Suki (not keen on Susannah). I had it on my list alongside Tabitha and Felix. I love cat names!!
Me too! Xmas Smile

I know two Susannahs . One is Sannah or San and the other is Suze . Both suit their owners but if Suki is what you love go Suki

Justkeeppedaling · 14/03/2022 17:57

I love the name Susannah/Suzannah.

AhhWoof · 14/03/2022 17:56

Susannah with Sukie as a nn. Knew a few as a child and always envied the name!

Dreamingof3 · 14/03/2022 17:43

I like Suki, I've known two, one is four and it suits her to a t

The other was a mid 30s lady who had quite a high powered job, she was super chic

So I only have positive connections

SteakExpectations · 14/03/2022 17:31

I’ve only ever heard it in the nursery rhyme, but agree it’s a lovely name

Polly put the kettle on
Polly put the kettle on
Polly put the kettle on
We’ll all have tea

Suki take it off again
Suki take it off again
Suki take it off again
They all went away

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 14/03/2022 17:29

I do think they are two very different names but your update has said that is not a problem and that you can assign a nickname so go for it.

I like both of them-I would put Susannah on the birth certificate and then call her Sukey.

LittleBearPad · 14/03/2022 17:24

Susannah’s a lovely name.

Sukey makes me think of a Jilly Cooper character in pearls - sorry

kingsleysbootlicker · 14/03/2022 17:22

Sukie to me is a drink but if you don't live in NI/Ireland, then it's unlikely to be a problem. I like it as a name besides that, but I would probably go for Susannah and Suki(e) as a nickname

Susannah nn Suki/Sukie or just Suki/Sukie?
Luredbyapomegranate · 14/03/2022 17:10

Susannah for sure! Sukie is sweet but you want a more grown up full name. If you use Sukie from the start it'll last till she's a teen most likely and then she'll decide.

scottishnames · 14/03/2022 15:27

Another one saying 'full name Susannah - which is very nice - then see which short form (if any) emerges naturally'.

Kanaloa · 14/03/2022 01:22

I would choose Susannah, which I think is a lovely name. Then the child has more options. I’m not keen on Suki to be honest, especially not as a proper name. As a pet name it’s fine.

CakesOfVersailles · 14/03/2022 01:20

Susannah. Lovely name.

Zillamop · 14/03/2022 01:09

Susannah as full name. It's more substantial and elegant whereas Suki is quite cutesy.

Footnote · 13/03/2022 19:02

If the name you love is Suki(e) use that on the birth certificate.

Frankiefarr · 13/03/2022 18:56

Sukie/Sukey is a very old diminutive of Susan/Susanna and very popular in the 18th century ( polly put the kettle on, Sukie take it off again)

It is also 18th/19th century slang for a prostitute

duck3914 · 13/03/2022 16:05

I love just Suki on its own. Susannah is too old fashioned for me.

TheWomandestroyed · 13/03/2022 13:44

I have a family member with a dog named Suki Smile

AnnieandMiri · 13/03/2022 13:37

Sorry, diminutive. Wish I could say that was a typo but truthfully I just can never remember how to spell that word!

@Lilaclavenders

I love Susannah & Suzanne. They normally shorten to Susie/Suzie.

Suki is a completely different name! It's Japanese.

Sukie (spelled like this) is also a Hebrew name and a dimunative of Susannah Smile But I do like it as an independent name too!
