Sylvie! I absolutely love this name.

Frankiefarr · 12/03/2022 19:36

Thanks everyone. I did wonder about the Marine Le Pen connection which was concerning me and a so many made the connection that’s off my list!

Sylvie is my favourite on that list, I think it's quite elegant. Elodie is okay but not keen on the others.

GalactatingGoddess · 12/03/2022 19:33

@KeepingAnOpenMind Yes, people are starting to want more unusual names as times change I think and they don't have to be as penned in by convention and judgement etc from others.
I have a very unusual name as does my sister, and DD does too but not as unusual - so I am biased as I've had nothing negative come of my name despite it being very out there for the area.

GalactatingGoddess · 12/03/2022 19:31

I like Xanthe, Marine and Sylvie (biased though as one of those is mine)

averythinline · 12/03/2022 19:30

Elodie is fab, also like Freya....Scarlet is ok but not as good as those.
I knew a lovely Marina....don't like Marine or Zanna bit lumpy some how....

@KeepingAnOpenMind

Why does no one use names like Sara, Jane or Jackie anymore? Is it because people want unusual names only?
These things go in cycles. I’d imagine Jackie, Sara and Jane likely are unusual amongst babies, but not in the 40+ crowd! I expect they’ll come back in to fashion in 20 years like Ivy and things have recently.

Marine is a nice name but I'm afraid it's difficult to divorce from Marine le Pen who is a horror. I'd avoid that.

Silkierabbit · 12/03/2022 19:25

Elodie is my favourite, Sylvie or Scarlett after that. Freya too harsh sounding for me.

Love elodie

ThePennyJustDropped · 12/03/2022 19:08

I like all of them! Wouldn't use Marine though, because in many English accents it sounds closer to Maureen which isn't quite the same vibe. Marina or Marnie both also nice.

Élodie is lovely. One of my favourite French names of all times. I guess Elodie is easier in the UK and it's nice.

Sylvie is okay.

Xanthe is unattractive sounding.

Marine is fine but Marine Le Pen is pretty awful might be too associated with her outside of France. In France it is too common to really be associated with anyone.

Zanna is ugly and insubstantial, sorry!

Freya is overdone and doesn't sound pretty.

Scarlett sounds too much like "scar".

Elodie all the way.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 12/03/2022 19:04

Marine doesn't work so well in the UK. Plus it reminds me of Marine Le Pen. Yech.

The rest are all fine but Zanna is my favourite. It's got some pep in its step.

miltonj · 12/03/2022 18:59

Love Elodie and Sylvie.

Not as keen on marine but like Marnie a lot!
