Elodie is L.O.D. Very ugly sounding. Xanthe is great.

garlictwist · 13/03/2022 05:31

The only one I like is Freya (my name as it happens!)

I really dislike Élodie and Sylvie. They are very middle aged names.

Elspethelf · 13/03/2022 05:02

I love Sylvie and Xanthe. Xan as a nn is so cool

Mumofgirls2017 · 13/03/2022 02:46

I love Xanthe! Also Elodie and Sylvie

Mummyofmandb · 13/03/2022 00:39

@Frankiefarr Like Sylvie and Elodie. Marin instead of Marine?

wizzler · 12/03/2022 22:55

I like all your names except Zanna. Would you consider Elvie or Zinnia ?

DeoForty · 12/03/2022 22:21

I really like Marine. Have you thought about Nerine? Like the flower?

PinkSyCo · 12/03/2022 22:02

Love the name Sylvie ( though I would use Sylvia so that child has option of both). Elodie’s lovely too. Freya’s quite nice. Marina’s better than Marine. Not too keen on Xanthe and don’t like Zanna or Scarlett at all.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 12/03/2022 21:53

For me? Sylvie.

The name of one of the most beautiful souls I have had the good fortune to meet.

Luredbyapomegranate · 12/03/2022 21:44

Of your list, Sylvie - pretty and spriteky

But if you like Marina rather than Marine - that’s really beautiful and elegant. Or If you like Ianthe rather than Xanthe - then same.

Freya is lovely but got a bit tired
Elodie - sweet but she’ll be one of a billion Ellies, also, like Freya and Scarlett, it went from no where to very popular so it will date
Xanthe - it’s wet - but Ianthe (eye-an-thee) is very elegant
Zanna - no, weird. Hannah. Anna or Zara - all fine
Scarlett - tired and a bit downmarket these days

@KeepingAnOpenMind

Why does no one use names like Sara, Jane or Jackie anymore? Is it because people want unusual names only?
It's because people don't want to use those names. Is that alright with you?
canichange · 12/03/2022 20:09

My favourite on your list is Xanthe.

Marina?
Elowyn?

Lampface · 12/03/2022 20:06

Elodie, Sylvie and Freya are beautiful. I think Freya is the most popular and Sylvie is the least - good to bear in mind in case you're going for a rare name or something high up!

DirtyDancing · 12/03/2022 20:05

Marina instead of Marine?

Love Sylvie it was my great great Aunt's name, who was apparently, a very kindly lady. It's a nice one to bring back

SherryPort18 · 12/03/2022 20:03

@KeepingAnOpenMind
Excellent user name!

Sarah and Jayne are perfectly nice names.. but so are Elodie and Sylvie.

OP I love Sylvie, it was on my list and I like also Freya and Elodie 🙂

riotlady · 12/03/2022 19:48

I like all of them except Marine!

Luredbyapomegranate · 12/03/2022 19:47

@KeepingAnOpenMind

Why does no one use names like Sara, Jane or Jackie anymore? Is it because people want unusual names only?
@KeepingAnOpenMind

Because names go in fashions - Jackie, Jane snd Sarah were popular in the 50s to 70s. Using them now would be the equivalent of calling your 1970 baby Ernest or Ada. Back then those were granny names, now they are back in fashion and Jackie and Sarah are granny names.

There are more names in common circulation mind you, which is partly because more people from different cultures live in the Uk, and partly a globalisation of pop culture.

However, the top ten is pretty consistently a conventional mix of names like Oliver, Theo, Amelia etc.

MsNorris · 12/03/2022 19:46

I have a French friend Elodie, It’s a lovely name but everyone cause her Elo which is not a great nickname

bombombo · 12/03/2022 19:45

Sylvie is my favourite, Elodie is nice too. Not keen on Marine but I do like Marina Smile

Roselilly36 · 12/03/2022 19:44

Elodie is lovely, I also love Marina, Harmony, Melody.

CornishGem1975 · 12/03/2022 19:44

Agree with the Marine Le Pen connection but I do like Marina a lot.

cigarettesNalcohol · 12/03/2022 19:43

Elodie is very common and a very average name in France. The equivalent in the UK would be picking Laura for example.

Ethelily · 12/03/2022 19:42

I forgot Sylvie in my post! I also love this

JemimaTiggywinkle · 12/03/2022 19:39

Love Sylvie.
Would you consider Marina, it’s very nice.
Marine just makes me want to say biologist after it.

Ethelily · 12/03/2022 19:39

I like Elodie and Xanthe, I have a Freya so that is always going to be my favourite!

I don't like Marine (makes me think of marine animals) although I do like Marnie as suggested by a pp.

I also don't like Zanna, but what about Zena?
