Following on from my other thread I've amended my name choices.
I'd appreciate help/advice on which is nicest.
Middle name would be Jean (named for my nana I can't compromise on this).
I'm half Korean so have picked some Korean names too this time as well. I could add the Korean name as another middle name after my nanas though:
Bae
Chin-Sun
Minji
Moon
So-Ok
Sailor
Ember
Cherry
Magnolia
Bronte
Sage
Venus
Yes I've ditched Apricot & taken on board some of the advice you ladies have given me I appreciate it x

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
sevensleeps · 11/03/2022 20:30

@TheSunWillComeOut2moro

Just name her Charlotte or Isabelle, no child wants to be called Moon Shine Minge.
Omg dying 🤣🤣🤣
Legalconundrums · 11/03/2022 20:29

Moon Shine Minge... I'm just spat wine all over myself ..

Choux · 11/03/2022 20:25

Sage Jean Ember.

Sage is unusual yet does not suffer from spelling issues and would suit a serious grown up as well as child. You don't know what type of adult she would be so it's good to choose a name which is wide ranging. You could also consider Sorrel or Saffron.

Ember - because you love it and as a third name it will rarely get used so is far more acceptable to me.

JungleJimbo · 11/03/2022 20:22

Azalea Jean So-Ok

birdie90 · 11/03/2022 20:16

Sorry but all of these names except Ember and Bronte are awful. If you like Moon how about Luna instead?

Please be more considerate towards your child, they will have this name for the rest of their life (probably). It’s not just about bullying and it’s sad that’s something that needs to be considered but it can also affect one’s self esteem. I am not sure how old you are but this isn’t just an opportunity to be edgy, it sounds harsh but I am looking out for your child.

Susu49 · 11/03/2022 19:56

I agree with pp @Spaghetti0h I think you're winning fans simply for your sense of humour - if your daughter has half your good nature she's never going to be short of friends!

welshpolarbear · 11/03/2022 19:56

Sorry my msg didn't work! It was meant to contain a crying with laughter emoji 😂 Moon Shine Minge 😂

lottiegarbanzo · 11/03/2022 19:55

Sook, short for Suki, is gorgeous. As in Sook Damson in The Woodlanders.

welshpolarbear · 11/03/2022 19:54

Thewindwhispers · 11/03/2022 19:42

@SherlocksDeerstalker

You CANNOT name your baby Minji. That doesn’t work in British slang. Not at all!
I’m assuming this is a wind-up thread. Bit of a coincidence so many of the names have dodgy slang meanings.
user1471443411 · 11/03/2022 19:38

I like Magnolia, Ember or Cherry.
Sage is also Ok, but Sage Jean may be a bit boring.

fleurpots · 11/03/2022 19:36

I really like Sage and actually quite like Apricot - i missed your last thread. You could have it as an additional middle name, Sage Apricot Jean.

I do think some of your names are best avoided if you are living in the UK, due to certain associations.

peaceinourtime · 11/03/2022 19:18

Apricot is nice, for many years at school, I wanted to be called Apricot. However, my friend thought it sounded like a pet name :(.
Cherry and Sage are also both nice names.

ladycarlotta · 11/03/2022 19:08

OP, you are great! I'm so impressed by your resilience and humour. I don't think you need to worry about the PPs who say 'not in England' to Korean names, although I do agree that Minji might be best avoided.

I love Magnolia and the suggestion of Azalea
Moon is kind of lovely in either language
Chin-Sun I like
I like Sage but not Sage Jean
Sailor is cute

Good luck and happy life with the new baby!

ladycarlotta · 11/03/2022 19:04

@RaininSummer

I love azalea. Azalea Moon has a certain something about it
ooh it really does!

What about Flora Jean

BrutusMcDogface · 11/03/2022 18:22

BrutusMcDogface
Please take on board what everyone has said about Minji/ mingey, though.
Yes I will thanks I'll get rid of that one then x

You are fab, I agree with all the people who have said so! 💕

FlamingoDust · 11/03/2022 18:13

I like Cherry or Ember. Personally I also really liked Apricot!

Mummyoflittledragon · 11/03/2022 18:01

@Snowbell99

I can't help but wondering if this is a Sailor Moon homage. Given that there is also a Sailor Venus.

If you want similar names:

Luna (this is a bit popular but really nice)
Tsuki (it means "moon" in Japanese)
Selena (means "moon")
Selene (see above)
Serena (Sailor Moon's name in English translation (sometimes they use Usagi)).

I loved Sailor Moon reruns as a child.

I like these names though.
VoodooBadger · 11/03/2022 18:00

I like Ember and Sage from your list, and Story from your previous list. I also like Azalea.

Mummyoflittledragon · 11/03/2022 17:59

Azalea for me too.

Bae = babe in insta speak
Chin Sun = doesn’t work as are two British words. Look at your chin son
Minji = you really don’t want your dd to mingy
So Ok = the ever more jokes of are your ok or so ok?
Sailor = hello sailor - frustrated seamen and gay male greeting
Moon = doing a moony (please don’t encourage boys)
Ember = dying ember in a fire, depressing
Cherry = I like it but the teen jokes of popping your Cherry would be a no
Magnolia = Pretty. But the wall colour is beyond boring and is not on the cool and edgy side of different
Brontë = potentially ditto Magnolia but is the best out of these names
Sage = In French if your dog or child is good, they’re ‘Sage’ so it’s a no for me. Also sounds rather ‘heavy’ as a name.
Venus = I’m your Venus razor, your desire

Isthisjustnormal · 11/03/2022 17:52

Agree hugely that you have coped with the mumsnet conservatism (& actually a somewhat provincial attitude to non English names) with a great resilience and humour - what amazing attributes for a mum to be!
Fwiw, my dd has a name that mn hated when I named her 16 years ago and is not regularly posted on mn threads as beautiful and classic - name preferences are very fast moving.

Fwiw I love Jean and Jeanie - classic, can be fun or elegant, very underused. I’d even be tempted as a first name with a Korean middle name (admitting that of your suggestions many are hard for an English audience!) of your suggested names I personally love Magnolia (esp mn Noly or Nolia rather than Maggie. I do likeSage and Bronte too - and I’m coming round to sailor!

I do think the Korean names you’ve suggested have some tricky associations to an English ear - are there any other Korean options that might translate more easily? I think it would be lovely to bring your heritage into the name for your daughter. This is purely from google so feel free to tell me you hate them but i wondered about Nari (lily in Korean I think) as a Korean name option or Hana? Both are very easily pronounced in English. Hana Jean works for me, as does Jean Nari!
