Would you say that Alexa is still usable? Just wondering. I have always liked it and I prefer it over Alexandra.

The Amazon Alexa thing doesn't really bother me. But I read that it bothers people on the internet and the name has fallen significantly in the statistics so I am wondering.

Alexa, usable or not?

By the way this is a family name for me but as an alternative I also like Alexia. However, this would not be a first name, just middle name.

Do you like Alexia? Is it better than Alexa?

I have an Eleska.....So not officially Alexa but similar, although she does get called Alaska and also Alexa.
Only issue in our house is that our devices have to be renamed "echo" so not to confuse it lol

I would avoid Alexa. Too much teasing potential because of the device. I do like Alexia (the given name has a completely different origin from the medical condition), but prefer the Italian form Alessia. Alessa is also quite nice.

In 20 years Alexa may well be long redundant in a technological sense but I suspect it will hang around as a cultural reference. It’s a lovely name but I’d avoid it these days.

As a middle name I think it would be fine.
DH has a cousin called Alexandra, known as Alexa all her childhood. Now in her 30s she uses Lex or Lexi as she got fed up of stupid comments.
It’s a shame, Alexa is a lovely name that I think has been spoiled a bit.

MissCarolina · 11/03/2022 11:29

I wouldn't use it now. Alexis is nice.

DoucheCanoe · 11/03/2022 11:25

I know a 5yo and 30yo Alexa - both get asked stupid questions 'for a laugh' from peers and it annoys them.

5yo has asked to change her name to Lexi and 30yo now introduces herself as Ally.

I'm not keen on Alexia, it makes me think of the word Dyslexia for some reason Hmm

toastofthetown · 11/03/2022 11:18

The Amazon Alexa might not bother you, but it might bother your daughter. The Alexa thing is very culturally ingrained and I can’t see it going anywhere. I wouldn’t say it’s totally unusable, but I’d certainly avoid it.

Alexis?

I wouldn’t use Alexa now.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 11/03/2022 11:13

I think unfortunately its now too 'Amazon'.

I like Alexis..

Middle name OK, but not as a first name due to the spiteful bullying that goes on.
