Would you say that Alexa is still usable? Just wondering. I have always liked it and I prefer it over Alexandra.

The Amazon Alexa thing doesn't really bother me. But I read that it bothers people on the internet and the name has fallen significantly in the statistics so I am wondering.

Alexa, usable or not?

By the way this is a family name for me but as an alternative I also like Alexia. However, this would not be a first name, just middle name.

Do you like Alexia? Is it better than Alexa?

Alexia or Alexandra, not Alexa

Annoyedwithmyself · 15/08/2022 10:42

Yeah sorry but I just think that the devices are too widely used, plus the fact that you have to speak to them out loud makes it unusable. At least for the foreseeable. Alexia or Alexis aren't my cup of tea but both fine

Rosiethecat15 · 15/08/2022 09:37

I feel for you as it's a lovely name!
Damn Amazon! Why pick a name that was gaining popularity prior to that. Should have called it Ethel or some other name that no-one is likely to use.

Notacottish · 13/08/2022 19:48

Our daughter is called Alexa (she pre dates the Amazon device). We still love the name but it’s awful what the device has done to it. When she starts secondary school her plan is to introduce herself as Alex to avoid the jokes. But it’s given her a bit of resilience around the jokes that come with it and introducing herself to new people. I tend to call her Lexa and I of course hope the Alexa thing fades and she can use her full name in the future. I have a good friend (who is Italian) called Alexia but I also love Alexis. 💐

AlwaysLatte · 13/08/2022 19:26

I wouldn't. It's a nice name but she could be teased and it would drive me crazy having the Alexa pinging every time I said her name!

Derbee · 13/08/2022 19:03

Absolutely unuseable

FayCarew · 13/08/2022 18:44

Alexia is a condition

applegrumbles · 13/08/2022 14:10

Oh goodness do not do this to your child

Tinida · 13/08/2022 13:59

I've been using Alexa for over six months now and haven't had any critical issues with this voice assistant yet. I did have one gripe with Alexa randomly lighting up, but that was due to a reminder I've had since last week.

JMPB · 19/03/2022 14:02

We’re having the same problem. For years our baby girl was going to be Alexa, and now the time has come and we’re having our daughter we don’t feel we can use it. Gutted. We are also likely to use Alexia, Alexis or Lexa.

SunshineAndFizz · 18/03/2022 08:10

Yeah soz, Amazon have nabbed it. I'd avoid. Alexia (adding 'i') is nice.

DockOTheBay · 18/03/2022 07:51

@KirstenBlest

Alexia is a rare condition in which reading comprehension is nonexistent or significantly limited due to brain injury, damage, or trauma.
That is a little known condition and pronounced differently (AY-lexia rather than AL-exia)
CoverYourselfInChocolateGlory · 18/03/2022 07:13

Yes, Alexis! Lovely name. It's what the daughter is called in Schitt's Creek and she's very glam Grin

collieresponder88 · 18/03/2022 06:58

No I think people will shout at her !
Alexia could work

MartinMartinMarti · 17/03/2022 22:27

I like it, but I think it’s tricky now which is a shame.

I know a great Alexina (Alex-eena) which I really like.

Frazzled2207 · 17/03/2022 22:27

Not keen due to the Amazon link. Even if it doesn’t bother you it will likely bother her. Alexa will be sticking around I think.

I like Alexia but I was with one at school at nobody (except me and her) could say it properly! Everyone said Aleck-sha

KayEmAy · 17/03/2022 22:23

On one of my favorite shows a character is named, Lexa.

I would drop the first, A. :)

That being said, Alexa is lovely and any name is usable if you like it

NiLunNiLautre · 13/03/2022 16:15

It’s a nice name but alas now unusable because of the device. It would be like calling your child ‘toaster’ or something.

Other ‘Alex’ names are still useable though (I hope… I have one!)

KirstenBlest · 12/03/2022 14:36

peaceinourtime · 11/03/2022 19:45

Alexa is nice, I wouldn't get put off by the device. It is well known name in its own right.

NewtoHolland · 11/03/2022 15:12

No Amazon have totally stolen it from being useable.. shame because it is a lovely name. I get that you don't mind but it'd be awkward for them going round millions of people's houses who use Alexa..at school etc..

Luredbyapomegranate · 11/03/2022 15:06

Not really. Alexandra?

cherryonthecakes · 11/03/2022 14:17

I would also worry about "Alexa doesn't know the answer" being a teasing point.

Cakecakecheese · 11/03/2022 14:11

It'll just be awkward every time someone says her name and It'll set off any Amazon devices in the vicinity! If you have one at home you can change the name of it but that's not really possible when she's out and about.

cherryonthecakes · 11/03/2022 14:04

I wouldn't as a first name. I bet people called Alexa get asked stupid questions all the time even when they are older than the Amazon device.

There are female names that are also car names and maybe it's time that means we don't hear Elise and think Lotus or Octavia and think Skoda.
