Venus, Story, Ember or Apricot?
I've narrowed my name list down to these.
I want something a little different to the top 20 names if possible.
Middle name would be Jean.
Which is your favourite in order please or what do you think?
Tysm for the help x

Think about how they'd get shortened as well, as they will, regardless.

Apricot - Ape (!)
Venus - V (not so bad, better than Venus maybe?)
Story - Store (?)
Ember - Emb (could be worse)

starfishmummy · 11/03/2022 11:32

If you are going for a fruit how about orange? Orange Jean has such a nice ring to it.

hiredandsqueak · 11/03/2022 11:31

The Story I know of was ridiculed through Primary and actively bullied in Secondary just because of her name so I'd give that a miss. The others are names more than likely to attract negatve attention too. I wouldn't give a child a name that would make them a target.

sadpapercourtesan · 11/03/2022 11:29

How about Berry?

I don't like any of your four choices, I'm afraid. Cherry is OK.

NoFitStateMum · 11/03/2022 11:29

'SpiderinaWingMirror

There is an entire raft names thar fall between "not in the top 20" and those.
I think you need to apply some thought into what your child will feel about their name.
Incidentally, do you have a name that is fairly common?

My name is not common in the UK x'

Spaghetti0h your name may not be common in the UK but is it common elsewhere in the world? That's a big difference IMO. Giving names with cultural significance which may be common or relatively common in other countries is quite different. Of your list I would argue none are common anywhere.

They're v try-hard OP. I think you can find something that isn't 'common' or quite so 'out there'. But I think you want to give a v uncommon name regardless of what it is, i.e. a name or just a random noun.

BobLemon · 11/03/2022 11:28

Jean is the nicest!

Then Ember.

Happenchance · 11/03/2022 11:28

Ember is OK
Venus is a razor
Apricot is a dog colour.
Story/stories is used to often in life, e.g. story time, don't tell stories, 12 story building etc.
Cherry will lead to virginity jokes.

How about:
Eugenie nn Jean
Veronique
Verona
Forrestine
Meadow

Ilovethecinema · 11/03/2022 11:27

I love ember. Walking past the local primary yesterday, twins called apple and pear!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 11/03/2022 11:25

Venus Jean instantly makes me think of the song Venus in Blue Jeans.

I like Cherry, I'd add that to your list. Smile

PermanentlyTired03 · 11/03/2022 11:25

They all sound a bit like names a celebrity would call their child. Ember is ok. Apricot is plain mean. Sorry. It is along the lines of peaches- but that's also a weird name! They'll have that name when they are 35 and working!

Thoosa · 11/03/2022 11:25

@sorryiasked

How about Astoria nn Stori Amber Clementine
Clementine is lovely.
Spaghetti0h · 11/03/2022 11:25

@Minniem2020

In the nicest possible way, as someone who has been laughed at and embarrassed by my name my whole life, please don't pick any of these.
Ok thanks for the input & I'm sorry to hear that x

Out of all of those Ember is the nicest. Why don't you consider Amber as it's really similar, will be much easier for your child growing up (re telling people how to spell it etc)?

babysleephelp · 11/03/2022 11:24

Rock not roach 🤦‍♀️

babysleephelp · 11/03/2022 11:24

Cherry Jean sounds quite roach star to me op. I like it!

Personally I wouldn’t use any of those. How about these with similar meanings?

Cherry or Plum are better fruit names.

Calliope, Clio & Thalia are Greek muses of different poetry types, history and storytelling. Look them up to see exactly which is which.

Amber will wear better than Ember.

Juno, Hera & Vesta are more usable Greek or Roman goddesses.

Spaghetti0h · 11/03/2022 11:23

@MrsT36

Cherry is very cool, though a lot of scope for her to endure “pop your cherry” jokes in secondary school 😬

Some suggestions as your names seem quite nature based;
Autumn
Winter
Summer
March
January
Harlow (maybe not with jean!)
Brontë
Clementine
Dove
Prairie
Meadow
Sunny
Wren
Hero
Avalon
Linnea
Tamar
Aspen
Astor

Thank you for this, I love Bronte & Meadow! X

Ember is nice. I loved a song called Embers Fire years ago by Paradise Lost.

They are all ridiculous.

Spaghetti0h · 11/03/2022 11:20
Just dropping in the fact that Ember would have her own (sad and solemn) days, so that would rather put me off that name. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ember_days
Oh wow! 🥺

I love Ember, I think it's gorgeous. I quite like Story and Apricot too but would not be brave enough to use them. Venus is awful, waaaaay too much for a child to live up to. It'd be like calling a little boy Eros or Romeo or something like that, just too much pressure for most kids. Go with Ember, it's really nice.
