Venus, Story, Ember or Apricot?
I've narrowed my name list down to these.
I want something a little different to the top 20 names if possible.
Middle name would be Jean.
Which is your favourite in order please or what do you think?
Tysm for the help x

Ember-Jean, for me, is better than just Ember.

SecondhandTable · 11/03/2022 12:34

I didn't RTFT before but now I can see you have Korean heritage. Personally if I were you I would definitely be picking a Korean first name in those circs. I'm mixed ethnicity and have a name derived from Arabic,, and DH is white British, both our kids have Arabic first names.

Gonnagetgoing · 11/03/2022 12:34

@ArianaDumbledore

I know a Story, I think it's a lovely name.

I don't see why the Venus Williams connection would be perceived negatively either.

@ArianaDumbledore - I didn't mean to say the Venus Williams connection would be perceived negatively but honestly I don't know that many women called Venus, maybe celebs.
MrsWinters · 11/03/2022 12:32

If you’re not naming a puppy or a horse you can’t use these I’m afraid

MotherofAutism · 11/03/2022 12:32

@thingymaboob

What about Nectarine? I hear Mango is popular these days. There's a girl called Banana in my daughters school GrinConfused
Is there genuinely a child called Banana or am I just not being perceptive to sarcasm today??
SecondhandTable · 11/03/2022 12:31

I'm another who really dislikes all of those names, and I would say I am pretty open-minded when it comes to names, especially compared to most the PP I see on these forums! I actually know a little Ember though if that makes any difference.

LovePoppy · 11/03/2022 12:30

The only one I can get on board with is Ember

But it’s quite popular where I live

ElvisPresleyHadABaby · 11/03/2022 12:29

Where's all this love for Story come from? Absolutely ridiculous as a name!

INeedNewShoes · 11/03/2022 12:29

Maybe I should just call my daughter a Korean name & keep one of these for a nickname?

This is a much much better idea.

If you must pursue a need to use a name that is not common in the UK it would be much better to take a name from your heritage than to saddle her with something ridiculous.

I know you think people are being mean here, but really they're not. It's a higher level of meanness to name a child a daft word. Avoid putting your wish to be unique above the child's need to have a name that won't cause all manner of issues.

LibbyL92 · 11/03/2022 12:28

I’m really sorry but none of them.

When they are adults springs to mind.each to their own ect.

magicstars · 11/03/2022 12:25

How about Jeanie?
Cherry & Autumn both lovely.
Venus is fine too.

Whattochoosenow · 11/03/2022 12:25

Why not go for April instead of Apricot?
April Jean

Barrawarra · 11/03/2022 12:23

I feel sorry for you OP, it looks like you really didn’t expect this reception to these names. Personally I love Jean and feel that’s a bit ‘different’ at the moment but I hear you feel it’s plain. I think these threads can be hard as there are all kinds of names people find ridiculous and this feels like a bit of a pile on. But equally I understand the reactions, they aren’t to my taste either. I do like Meadow though!

magicstars · 11/03/2022 12:22

Cherry is really nice & quite unusual. I know two but different generations.

PinkNails1 · 11/03/2022 12:21

The only okay name there is “Ember” though everyone will call her Amber. Save the other names for your next pet.

NameChanger45465465 · 11/03/2022 12:20

Can you give her a nicer middle name.

I think its pretty horrible for a child to be called Apricot and her only fall back is jean !

CannotShakeIt · 11/03/2022 12:17

@BenchBench

Story Ember Venus Apricot
I disagree, I like the name Venus, who wouldn’t want to be named the same as someone who thought so hard to pave the way for women to follow 👊🏽
CurryLover56 · 11/03/2022 12:14

None of those!

Regularsizedrudy · 11/03/2022 12:12

That is a list of nouns

Ember (or Amber) Jean?

Ember(or Amber) Cherry Jean?

Ember (or Amber) (Korean Name) Jean? It's nice to incorporate your heritage.

(Korean Name) Ember Jean?

As someone who grew up with an unusual (foreign) name (not by today’s standards but definitely in the 80s) I would counsel you to think not just about what you like/your desire to be different but what it will be like for your child. Most of these names are not really to my taste - which is fine, but I would say you really can’t call your child Apricot.

Gonnagetgoing · 11/03/2022 12:10

@Spaghetti0h - just because you like Venus Williams doesn't mean to say you have to name your child after her.

If you're Nigerian then yes call your child Story. If you're you (Korean?) it might go down well at school but she might get teased for it.

Trust me I know...

There's a child near where I live called India, and that's lovely - but her DM has Indian heritage. Her sister is called a normal but slightly unusual name from e.g. 1920s/30s.

Spaghetti0h · 11/03/2022 12:09

@Gonnagetgoing

If you're Korean I'd be tempted to use a Korean name.

I have an unusual first name, I was teased for that (and something else too).

Cherry does sound nice but maybe have another middle name and then Jean.

My dad is Korean, my daughter is going to be a quarter Korean. Thanks I'm definitely thinking about Cherry. I wanted Jean to be after my nana (mums mum) x
