Venus, Story, Ember or Apricot?
I've narrowed my name list down to these.
I want something a little different to the top 20 names if possible.
Middle name would be Jean.
Which is your favourite in order please or what do you think?
Tysm for the help x

@Spaghetti0h

Of course I don't want my child to get bullied ... I've never known anyone with these names so hadn't thought of it that way. Thank you to the people who've been nice x
Sometimes there’s a reason for that, sorry OP Blush
RampantIvy · 11/03/2022 12:47

In the nicest possible way, as someone who has been laughed at and embarrassed by my name my whole life, please don't pick any of these

Ditto, for the same reasons. As a result I gave DD a name that people had heard of and that they could spell without help.

As the world becomes increasingly global I think it’s wise to steer away from nouns. It seems to create confusion amongst those who speak English as a second language and cause offence to the name holder/giver

That is an excellent point. Also, they might have different meanings in other languages. Remember the Vauxhall Nova? No va means doesn‘t go in Spanish

Motherdare · 11/03/2022 12:47

As an adult, I truly would cringe to have to introduce myself as any of those names. Don’t saddle a child with your attempts to be different.

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 11/03/2022 12:46

None of them are nice. Just why?

Dresslover1950s · 11/03/2022 12:46

I like them all

forestlovr · 11/03/2022 12:45

@TeenPlusCat

Suggestions of non top 20 names which are all better than your suggestions: Amanda, Belinda, Caroline, Deborah, Elizabeth, Fiona, Gail, Hester, Iona, Joanna, Katherine, Lucy, Mary, Nicola, Olive, Petra, Quita, Rosemary, Sarah, Tamsin, Ursula, Veronica, Wendy, Xian, Yolande, Zoe.
Those are not better they're all awful ... Gail?? It's a baby not a 70 year old woman.
IlCommissarioMontalbano · 11/03/2022 12:44

They're all awful, please don't lumber a child with a name like these.

Well my immediate reaction was Woah!! To all of those, however, on second reading I think Ember Jean is surprisingly lovely. And lovely to name for your Nan too.
Thank you xx

@Lovemusic33

I like Ember but not the others, I like similar names but these are a bit to ‘out there’ even for me, I don’t think I could name a child after a fruit. Venus is ok ish, I almost called dd Phoenix but dh (now ex) convinced me to give her a boring name, she now jokes about it and says she wishes she had been called Phoenix 🤣. I like names related to plants such as Sorrel, Sable and Sage but not keen on fruit names.
Thank you x oh I like Sage now too thanks!

I know a girl called cherry. She is horrible. Made me hate the name, sorry! I also know 2 peach's they aren't nice either!

What’s her name?

Prairie

What like an open expanse of land?

Erm no…it’s…

Or like the dog?!

Spaghetti0h · 11/03/2022 12:40

@Barrawarra

I feel sorry for you OP, it looks like you really didn’t expect this reception to these names. Personally I love Jean and feel that’s a bit ‘different’ at the moment but I hear you feel it’s plain. I think these threads can be hard as there are all kinds of names people find ridiculous and this feels like a bit of a pile on. But equally I understand the reactions, they aren’t to my taste either. I do like Meadow though!
Thank you for being nice to me, yes I really wasn't expecting some of the comments although lots of people have been lovely too x

@NameChanger45465465

Can you give her a nicer middle name.

I think its pretty horrible for a child to be called Apricot and her only fall back is jean !

Middle name is my nans name

That comment was to the lady who commented on Venus Williams being an inspiration

Ember Jean is the least awful. Sorry. But Amber Jean would be better. Please remember your child will be an adult. You want her to be taken seriously. What if she's a barrister or prime minister for example. Prime Minister Apricot?? She won't be taken seriously I'm sorry. And that could affect her life chances.

@Spaghetti0h - my nana (mum's mum) was called Lilian Jean and known as Lily as a child (1920s) and Jean as an adult.

Nice enough names but no way I'd want them for my children. I do know a Lily who's 18 or 19 now though.

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 11/03/2022 12:34

I met an Emba / Ember once and quite liked it as a name, although I think they had chosen to change their name to it as an they/them person.
