Venus, Story, Ember or Apricot?
I've narrowed my name list down to these.
I want something a little different to the top 20 names if possible.
Middle name would be Jean.
Which is your favourite in order please or what do you think?
Tysm for the help x

OP posts:

FlibbertyGibbitt · 11/03/2022 13:02

Jeanie ? Just remember when you see her for the first time she might not suit the name

Tulipomania · 11/03/2022 13:00

Venus is a lot to live up to.

I knew a woman called Story once. Always thought it was a weird name.

Apricot - are you Gwyneth Paltrow? How about April instead. Much nicer.

Bananaramad · 11/03/2022 13:00

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but in Dublin (Ireland) Story is (can be ) the start of a conversation as in Story Bud? = Hello my friend how are things with you?

tkwal · 11/03/2022 13:00

From that list, definitely Ember ( personally I would prefer Amber)

TrashyPanda · 11/03/2022 12:59

Ember Jean is the name of one of the Roloff (Little People, Big World) grandchildren.

Her parents are “influencers”, which really fits with the name.

Halllyup17 · 11/03/2022 12:58

I honestly thought this was going to be a threat about naming a pet.

They're all ridiculous. Please don't start your baby out on a journey to being bullied.

SingingSands · 11/03/2022 12:58

I really like Jean. I think it's a really cool name and well overdue a comeback.

GlitteryGreen · 11/03/2022 12:58

I quite like Ember! But would be conscious everyone would hear it as Emma/Amber at first.

mam0918 · 11/03/2022 12:57

@TeenPlusCat

forestlvr Those are not better they're all awful ... Gail?? It's a baby not a 70 year old woman.

The child will be ahead of her time. Smile A number of the names are due a come back in the next 20 years, just like 'old lady' names like Ivy are popular now. When she is 45 everyone will think she is 15 years younger...

(I agree Gail isn't great though, most of my list is better than Gail).

there's 2x Edith, Agnes, Maureen and 2x Rita in my son's class... I don't think it's ahead of the curve, dated 'granny' names are the in thing right now.
BlueFlavour · 11/03/2022 12:57

I really like Ember. I also like Gail.
What about Sailor?
I actually quite like Apricot. Congratulations @Spaghetti0h, some lovely choices.

Babyroobs · 11/03/2022 12:57

Ember is about the only one I could consider.

PeaceForUkraine · 11/03/2022 12:56

I love Jean - it’s an important name in my life.

Ember Jean is nice.

None of the others.

TrashyPanda · 11/03/2022 12:56

Ember = dying remains of a fire.
Not the best portent for a baby.
Just think it’s a horrid connotation.
Amber is a thousand times nicer.

Story - tell me a story, Story.

Venus - okay

Apricot- beyond bad.

Mummyoflittledragon · 11/03/2022 12:56

I really like cute names.

I do as well. However, what is cute on a baby and toddler is less so on a teen or 60 year old adult. A name should age with the person.

When dh and I were picking dd’s name, I was aware she would one day be introducing herself to the world of work and the world is sexist enough. I thought how it would be better to give her a name, which will stand her in good stead rather than to indulge myself.

Fuzzy303 · 11/03/2022 12:54

if there's a chance she may be a red head avoid Apricot & Ember

CareBear50 · 11/03/2022 12:53

My friend is a school teacher. every September he gets his new form class list of pupils.

He says 90pc of the time he knows straight away what parents will he like based on the kids names!

I'm afraid all those names fall into that category!

DoorLion · 11/03/2022 12:52

I actually think Story is fine and I am quite picky with names - I have mellowed out a lot as I got older though. I can imagine a cool heroine called Story.
Apricot, though, absolutely not. April or Avril.
Venus I don't like personally, it seems harsh and a bit sexual.
Ember - again, not over keen because of the connotations of ashes, "the dying embers of the fire", etc

TeenPlusCat · 11/03/2022 12:52

In the nicest possible way, as someone who has been laughed at and embarrassed by my name my whole life, please don't pick any of these

In the nicest possible way why didn't you just change it?

mam0918 · 11/03/2022 12:51

Ember is pretty and I like it, a more modern twist on Amber. Clearly a winner.

Venus is not my taste (just think men are from mars etc...) but it's usable.

Story is very 'hippy' and try hard to me (like Lyric, Snow, Sonnet, Stormy, Dream, and all the other suddenly popular 'influencer' baby names).

Apricot is fucking stupid, please don't use this on a human who will grow up and have to live a normal life.

McScreamysGhostPants · 11/03/2022 12:51

If I could only choose from those for names and has absolutely no other option I would go for Ember Jean. But the reality are there are MANY options that are better.

Sasha Jean
Remiah Jean
Ramira Jean
Saskia Jean
Amalthea Jean
Gwendolyn Jean
Persephone Jean
Seren Jean
Odette Jean
Estelle jean

Millions and millions of others too

Stravaig · 11/03/2022 12:51

Those sound like you're naming a doll or a puppy instead of an actual human being who will be a grown up for most of their life.

TatianaBis · 11/03/2022 12:50

@Spaghetti0h

Ok I loved Story because in the past I knew the most amazing Nigerian girl called Story ... I'm in a big multicultural city in the UK, no my daughter won't attend private school, but are all my choices really so out there to most young people my age?
No, not particularly.

It's just that a lot of MN is very conservative and insular. Even European names are considered 'pretentious' and out there.

tara66 · 11/03/2022 12:50

If you call her Ember people will ask ''Did you say - Amber?'' ALL the time!!

oakleaffy · 11/03/2022 12:50

Out of all these Venus sounds the best of a bad lot, but even Venus sounds like a cat's name.

Story sounds like a building , even though it's spelled differently,
Ember is like a dog's name, and will be likely be called ''Amber'' by everyone else.
