Venus, Story, Ember or Apricot?
I've narrowed my name list down to these.
I want something a little different to the top 20 names if possible.
Middle name would be Jean.
Which is your favourite in order please or what do you think?
Tysm for the help x

@Discodancinggiraffe

You are naming the woman your baby will grow up to become. Please don't turn that woman into a joke.
Indeed, when choosing names I liked to imagine my children with a very very serious occupation, and imagine them using their name professionally. They might grow up to the pop stars or children's entertainers, but likewise they might want to be judges or tax inspectors. I think if you gave them a funny name they'd just change it so they're taken seriously. You could be a children's entertainers or a judge if you're called Sara/Kathryn/Sienna/Priya/Kaya. Not so much with Apricot.
MurmuratingStarling · 11/03/2022 13:35

Ember is a name I would give to a pet.

notprincehamlet · 11/03/2022 13:34

I'm not sure I'd want a child I'd called Apricot choosing my nursing home. Revenge is sweet.

mnetting · 11/03/2022 13:34

These all sound like porn stars! What about Jean as a first name (not a top 20) and a quirkier middle name? That way if she doesn't like it she doesn't have to use it.

pepsirolla · 11/03/2022 13:34

Girl at my school called Venus got called Penus by school wag/bullySadAnother whose name was Cheryl but everyone called Cherry was fine till we hit adolescence then it was "ooooo! Have lost it yet you know... Cherry!" Angry she went back to Cheryl

1forAll74 · 11/03/2022 13:34

None of them, they are all quite silly names for a child.

Chickychickydodah · 11/03/2022 13:34

I’m sorry I don’t like any of them

MurmuratingStarling · 11/03/2022 13:34

@fortunenookie

I know a lovey little girl called Ember Nobody calls her Amber

From your list @Spaghetti0h that is the only one I actually like

I don't get that. Why would people call her Amber if her name is Ember?
Spaghetti0h · 11/03/2022 13:34

@loislovesstewie

You lost me at 'influencer'. I mean really!
I never said anything about influencers wdym?

I really like Ember. Wouldn't call my child it but I really like it. Apricot isn't a name unless you're famous or a fruit. Story is hideously American and Venus sounds like a stripper and again is very American.

You're not a Kardashian are you OP? In which all of your choices would be perfect.

HermioneKipper · 11/03/2022 13:33

Sorry none of them are my cup of tea. Ember at an absolute push. But she’ll be called Amber

lottiegarbanzo · 11/03/2022 13:33

I actually think Ember is a lot nicer than Amber.

MurmuratingStarling · 11/03/2022 13:33

@TeenPlusCat

Suggestions of non top 20 names which are all better than your suggestions:

Amanda, Belinda, Caroline, Deborah, Elizabeth, Fiona, Gail, Hester, Iona, Joanna, Katherine, Lucy, Mary, Nicola, Olive, Petra, Quita, Rosemary, Sarah, Tamsin, Ursula, Veronica, Wendy, Xian, Yolande, Zoe.

URGH! Some of those names are awful.. I would never curse a baby - in 2022 - with some of those names! Shock Where the HELL did you find them? Or are they just your choices? 🤣

Mary? Hester? Wendy! QUITA? OLIVE?! BELINDA!!! LMFAO! 🤣

fortunenookie · 11/03/2022 13:33

Car-parks have storeys not stories.

Not that you can tell the difference when spoken.

Spaghetti0h · 11/03/2022 13:32

@BlueFlavour

I really like Ember. I also like Gail. What about Sailor? I actually quite like Apricot. Congratulations *@Spaghetti0h*, some lovely choices.
I love Sailor thank you x

Sound like a bunch of exfoliators / hair removal devices

Honeyroar · 11/03/2022 13:31

Story as a name?? Is that a thing? Can’t believe people are saying yes to that one, it just sounds strange to me.

Ember is ok, although everyone will say Amber (which is nicer). Venus is hmmm. Apricot is strange. I just find it strange calling a child the name of an object.

Mischance · 11/03/2022 13:31

Oh dear - please ditch all these as a kindness to your child.

Spaghetti0h · 11/03/2022 13:31

Thanks to the lady who suggested Sailor I actually really like that!
I'm going to look into Korean names too.

MurmuratingStarling · 11/03/2022 13:30

@Purpleavocado

Someone once told me their little girl was called Story and I immediately thought she meant like in a car park - 1st story, 2nd story.
Sounds daft doesn't it?
lottiegarbanzo · 11/03/2022 13:30

The meaning of Ember is ok - embers are glowing and warm. You can toast marshmallows over them. You can re-light a fire from them. Those are nice associations.

Spaghetti0h · 11/03/2022 13:29

@Kite22

Aw that's not nice 😭

Nor is it nice to lumber a person with any of the ridiculous suggestions you have made.

In your opinion ☠

When thinking of names I think it's important to ask yourself "Would I want to be named X?"

I think Apricot and Story are pretty awful tbh and I would hate to have a name like that myself, so I wouldn't give it to a child. Ember and Venus are just about passable.

MurmuratingStarling · 11/03/2022 13:29

@BellatrixOnABadDay

Or what about....

Candlestick
Doughnut
Cushion
Shoebox
Ringbinder
Rug

I'm taking inspiration from the objects in my living room when naming my next child.

🤣
