Venus, Story, Ember or Apricot?
I've narrowed my name list down to these.
I want something a little different to the top 20 names if possible.
Middle name would be Jean.
Which is your favourite in order please or what do you think?
Tysm for the help x

@itsnevertolate

I know an little girl called Ember she's lovely and really suits her name. It not my favourite name but I don't think it's weird or horrible. I also quite like Story, I think it would be shortened to Rory or Store though.
“She really suits her name”

Really, in what way ? Is she hot to the touch? Glows when you blow on her? Crumbles to grey ash in the morning? Isn’t to be left near marshmallows?

@Joystir59

Saugacia is my suggestion. I made it up once and started a troll thread asking for feedback. Loads of fun.

@CaptSkippy

What about Esther?
How about no.
JinglingHellsBells · 11/03/2022 13:48

Why would Ember be a name?

An ember is some glowing coal or burnt wood at the bottom of the grate.

It's is not a name for a human being.

AmyDudley · 11/03/2022 13:48

I would avoid all fruit names. I've never heard of Story (as a name - like Apricot it is surely just a word?), but I imagine all sorts of confusion with 'it's story time' 'have you finished your story Story' etc at school.
Venus has all sorts of connotations which might be burdensome and Ember again is a word that means dying coals and will be confused with Amber.
I'd have a rethink, but obviously your baby your choice and you probably wouldn't like the names I chose for my kids, just remember name needs to work in school and then in later life.
Only person I know with fruit name, its a nickname - her name is Victoria and her nickname is Plum, in that case I like it. Maybe you could go down the Name with a pet name route then she will have a choice when she's older.

I like Story

There’s a reason why names are unique and no one has used them before.

CaptSkippy · 11/03/2022 13:47

What about Esther?

NameChanged15729 · 11/03/2022 13:47

Ember - I really like this! It feels really autumnal and warm.
Story - I surprisingly quite like this as well. It’s in the same style of Atlas and Harbour for boys and I’m hearing them more and more.
Venus - I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it but it’s not to my taste.
Apricot - Please don’t do this! It’s a fruit and not a particularly exciting one at that. Also it reminds me of the really harsh facial scrub! Not a great connotation!

Elnetthairnet · 11/03/2022 13:47

Cherry - noooooo! Pop your cherry??

Clementine/Clemmie is nice if you want a fruit name.

Story - weird and will get the piss taken out of them for ever. It’s story time! What about Seren instead?

Ember - will spend her life explaining that it’s not Emma or Amber. Both of which are perfectly good names.

Apricot - please don’t do this to your

Unusual names ideas: seren, clemmie, lettice, lillia, linnet, hazel, ivy

Joystir59 · 11/03/2022 13:46

@Spaghetti0h

Thanks to the lady who suggested Sailor I actually really like that! I'm going to look into Korean names too.
Get outta here! Sailor?
loislovesstewie · 11/03/2022 13:46

@SpaghettiOh, another poster made a comment about some names being typical of those chosen by influencers.

Spaghetti0h · 11/03/2022 13:46
@Spaghetti0h - I hope you don't think it was me being unkind. There's always the report button if you don't like a post.

Yes a few of us are older but I have younger friends and they wouldn't call their kids any of these (have asked them in past with similar names).
No not you at all, mostly aimed at the person who called me an idiot x
I wasn't meaning to have a go about the age I just got upset.
I wondered if from some of the suggestions people are a lot older than me

I absolutely love whacky baby name threads. I mean why would anyone ask on MN for feedback on their ludicrous choices! It's such fun throwing eggs at them. And all the nonsense about nicknames, which develop organically, they can't be imposed before birth

JinglingHellsBells · 11/03/2022 13:46

When did Story become a name?

It seems as if nowadays parents choose any word at all and give it to their child.

Poor children lumbered with these names when they reach their 50s and 60s.

Lovemusic33 · 11/03/2022 13:45

Chose a name you like OP, don’t worry about all the nasty comments and the recommendation of really boring plain names. I have a boring name and I wish I had a different name. I regret my ex making me chose a boring name for dd1, it doesn’t really suit her at all and she shares the name with many others, dd has a slightly different name (her name has been mentioned on here), it really suits her and she seems to like it.

Ember is much better than some of the names mentioned by others, I wouldn’t want my child having a grandma name 😉

Christinatherabbit · 11/03/2022 13:45

I really like Ember. Venus sounds too much like Penis so I can imagine there would end up being some teasing there. Story is really pretty and growing on me. I don't like the way Apricot sounds as a word and it seems a bit of a mouthful. Jean is beautiful and a lovely way to remember your grandmother. Congratulations

FrappuccinoLight · 11/03/2022 13:45

Are you sure this isn’t a joke?

Life is hard enough as a girl with all the friendship group and insecurity issues that tend to occur especially when they hit teen years, that it could be seen to be unfair to saddle her with a name that would make her a target too. These are attention seeking names but not really in a good way. Only offspring of celebrities tend to be able to get away with these types of names since they move in circles of similarly named children. She would just be ridiculed in a suburban primary school of Isabels, Georgias, Freyas and Emilys, and grow to resent you for it.

Having said that, Cherry is a very pretty name. So is Jean. Cherry Jean is lovely.

Joystir59 · 11/03/2022 13:44

@starfishmummy

If you are going for a fruit how about orange? Orange Jean has such a nice ring to it.

Newnamefor2022 · 11/03/2022 13:43

Apricot Jean will get changed in the playground to Appricot Jam...

KristalBall90 · 11/03/2022 13:43

I think Ember Jean sounds lovely! It would grow with her too, suiting a child as well as a teenager and adult (if that makes sense.) Emmy is a cute nickname too imo. Good luck OP.

Hmmm. Massively depends of fur colour. Ember and apricot for the poodle parentage type works fine, Venus and Story- good cos are two syllable for recall ease and well, no other doggies would have those names in the park!

We are talking pups aren’t we? No one would actually name a human child these, would they? Confused 🐶

OPTIMUMMY · 11/03/2022 13:42

You could adapt the names a bit if it’s the sound you like.

Tori instead of Story. Or something like Stella if it’s the St sound you like, or Chloe if it’s the o-y sound.
Peridot instead of Apricot - could be shortened to Peri which is nice.
Ember sounds nice, and is becoming more popular.
Venus I don’t like but also because it rhymes with Penis and if you’re thinking of potential bullying it can be about what it rhymes with as well.
