Elizabeth
Followed by Eleanor

LadyNell · 11/03/2022 18:47

I'm Eleanor hated ut when I was younger but rather like it now, it's fairly uncommon.

Corriefanhere · 11/03/2022 18:40

Elizabeth always seems such a heavy name to me, somehow, and I really hate Liz. I love Eleanor and annabel, though.

ThatPosterIsSoRight · 11/03/2022 18:39

Elizabeth

There are not enough Elizabeths in the world anymore. But pick a diminutive you like otherwise she’ll be saddled with Liz.

Liv999 · 11/03/2022 18:37

Eleanor by a mile, so classy, Isabel would be next but only if its spelt Isabelle, really not keen on Elizabeth and Annabel reminds me of the doll

daisydalrymple · 10/03/2022 23:13

Love Eleanor most, think it’s so elegant, timeless, but also strong.
Second is Elizabeth
Annabel
Isabel

soulinablackberrypie · 10/03/2022 23:06

I like all of them but I think Elizabeth is my favourite.

Snowbell99 · 10/03/2022 16:19

I love all of them, except for Elizabeth.

I know that Elizabeth is a classic with many namesakes, but I can't help but think of the royal family and I'm not a huge fan of theirs even though they are sort of interesting from a historical point of view. I think of the Queen waving and of Cate Blanchett in the "Elizabeth" movie and both are sort of weird associations. It's also kind of bland and boring and it comes with so many nicknames that her peers might end up calling her something you dislike (or she herself might choose a nickname that you dislike). For example, you like Liz but she wants to be Betsy. I am just tired of it and all of the nicknames that all sort of feel dated (Betty to the 30s, Lizzie to the 80s, Libby to the 90s etc.). So this is my least favourite, but still a solid choice, of course.

I love the others so it's hard to choose between them.

Annabel - is a long time favourite and I love this spelling. It makes me think of the poem by Edgar Allan Poe (Annabel Lee). Classic, lovely name and underused (Annabelle was popular a few years ago but fell rapidly, I guess because of the "Annabelle" horror films). You can't go wrong with Annabel.

Eleanor - is so beautiful, elegant and classic. I love it. Only negative is that Ell-names are so popular (Ella, Ellie, Ellen) and falling so might seem a bit tired after a while and she could end up as yet another Ellie. Still lovely.

Isabel - I love this too but I prefer Isabelle. I think this is the most common one if you are in England or Wales (all spellings combined). I would say that this was a bit overused. I still like it. The many different spellings are a bit annoying, because all of them were sort of common (Isabel, Isobel, Isabelle).

I would pick Eleanor or Annabel. I genuinely couldn't decide because I love them both so much. Maybe Annabel right now but could be Eleanor in a few hours.

Eleanor Annabel is a lovely combo.

MissCarolina · 10/03/2022 16:03

Annabel is my favourite

Longdistance · 10/03/2022 15:17

I have an 12yo Eleanor. I still love her name.

looloo247 · 10/03/2022 15:15

Eleanor, then Elizabeth. Both classic and less popular (where I live anyway) than the other two

user1493494961 · 10/03/2022 15:12

All lovely names, I would choose Eleanor.

Lilaclavenders · 10/03/2022 15:06

Elizabeth

Mumofgirls2017 · 10/03/2022 14:07

All nice, Annabel is my favourite

toastofthetown · 10/03/2022 14:07

Elizabeth, but I prefer the Elisabeth spelling.

sadpapercourtesan · 10/03/2022 14:02

They're all lovely. In order of preference, I'd choose Elizabeth, Annabel, Eleanor, Isabel.

RavenclawsRoar · 10/03/2022 14:02

Elizabeth

Synchrony · 10/03/2022 14:01

@Luredbyapomegranate

Elizabeth - just because they are all very popular but Elizabeth has so many diminutives she’ll find one she likes that will differentiate her from the other Ones
Agree with this
JazzyBBG · 10/03/2022 13:59

Annabel for me.

Second Elena rather than Eleanor.

Elizabeth is lovely but can't bear Liz!

Isabel - is nice but I find the "is" sound harsh.

Rainbowqueeen · 10/03/2022 09:43

Elizabeth or Eleanor.
Annabel is third in my ranking
Hate Izzy as a NN and Isobel is way too popular for me

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 10/03/2022 09:43

I love Eleanor but was put of by Ellie nickname (no reason just personal preference)
Elizabeth is name you can't put a date to, its a constant.
Annabel and Isabel are perfectly pleasant and popular. I don't see this a disadvantage but I know others do.

Thedogshow · 10/03/2022 09:39

Really love Elizabeth and Eleanor

FayCarew · 10/03/2022 09:36

Elizabeth

Never really liked Eleanor.
Isabel, if you include Isabelle and Isabella, is overused.
Annabel is a bit too frilly.

All are ok, but Elizabeth is by far my favourite

SallyWD · 10/03/2022 09:09

I really like them all. Sometimes it helps to see the baby. We had 2 names for my son. We preferred one and started calling him that before he was born. When he arrived we decided it didn't suit him - but the 2nd choice name was perfect for him!

Wintersbone · 10/03/2022 09:03

Elizabeth. It's such a classic, strong name, it works in lots of languages and has great diminutives.
