Need help with names!
We're looking for a name for DS2 - little brother to Wilfred (goes by Wilf).
Options on the table:

  • Doug/ie (douglas on birth certificate)
  • Bruno
  • Remy
  • Max (Maximilian)
  • Frankie (Franklin)

Any thoughts?

From your list I like Douglas best.

RoseMartha · 12/03/2022 10:13

On your list Frankie or Dougie

Or
Walter
Reginald (Reggie)
Alfred (Alfie or Freddie)
Albert (Bertie)

Synchrony · 12/03/2022 09:59

I like them all except Remy. It did also make me think of Boris Johnson's Wilfred and Romy.

UsernameIsHarderThanBabyName · 12/03/2022 09:53

First thoughts were Stanley and Victor

From your list I like Franklin and Douglas

TabithaTittlemouse · 12/03/2022 01:40

Douglas (Doug/ie) - Doug/ie sounds cartoon-ish to me, sorry. Douglas is very dated and not in a good (retro-chic) way. I know a really nice Douglas "Dougie" but not even he could make me like it.
Bruno - I don't find the sound attractive.
Remy - this is nice. I think I'd spell it Rémy.
Max (Maximilian) - it's nice and handsome but a bit overdone and 80s/90s to me.
Frankie (Franklin) - Sorry, I dislike it. The Fr-sound isn't attractive to me and Frankie sounds awful to me. I like Frederick much better but not a fan of Freddie.

I would pick Maximilian or Rémy. Rémy Maximilian sounds nice.

Suggestions:

Frederick
Rory
Macsen
Carlo
Leo
Edward
Edmund
Thomas
George
Elliott

Gilbert

Douglas. Pre-schoolers will love him and it goes best with Wilfred.

Luredbyapomegranate · 09/03/2022 23:48

Victor is another

Luredbyapomegranate · 09/03/2022 23:16

.. nn Ned not Ed

Luredbyapomegranate · 09/03/2022 23:15

Douglas goes beautifully
I also like Frank but as a full name Francis goes much better with Wilfred than Franklin
Max is fine
Bruno and Remy don’t go and are slightly middle aged and sweaty

Otherwise - Ernest nn Ernie, Laurence nn Laurie, Rufus, Rafe, Miles, Giles, Walter, Silas, Seth, Ivor, Philip nn Pip, Arnold nn Arnie, Arthur nn Art/Artie, Alfred nn Alf, Joss, Lachlan, Hector, Nathaniel nn Nat/e, Edwin/Edgar/Edmund nn Ed, Barnaby/Barnabas nn Barney, Hugh

NoSquirrels · 09/03/2022 22:55

If Frankie was a string contender I’d go Francis rather than Franklin.

I think it’s because Wilfred is so classically old-fashioned, Franklin/Maximilian/Remy/Bruno/Doug don’t sound of the same ‘type’.

NoSquirrels · 09/03/2022 22:52

None of your names are what would spring to mind as a sibling to Wilfred - agree with PP that Max and Wilf sound natural together but I’m not sure I could go with Maximilian personally.

My first thoughts were
Edmund
Ernest
Arthur
Benedict

Rosemary2022 · 09/03/2022 22:51

Albert?

VivienneDelacroix · 09/03/2022 22:49

Douglas/Dougie is a lovely name.

Pallisers · 09/03/2022 22:47

I love Max. I think it is a name on its own too so wouldn't necessarily do Maximilian unless you were ever going to use that name

MooseBreath · 09/03/2022 22:44

We don't talk about Bruno, no no no.

52andblue · 09/03/2022 22:42

Philip (Pip)
Or, Max.

CoddledAsAMommet · 09/03/2022 22:41

You can't have Remy - aren't Boris Johnson's children Wilf and Romy or something similar?

CleaningForPocketMoney · 09/03/2022 22:35

Hamish

But of your list Dougie

maybein2022 · 09/03/2022 22:33

All nice names that go nicely with Wilf. Other suggestions: Hugo, Rafferty (Raffy), George, Dominic, Henry, Sebastian…

WeasilyPleased · 09/03/2022 22:20

I love Douglas. So under used.

NoFitStateMum · 09/03/2022 21:50

I like Max. Wilf and Max sound best together and I like Max way more in its own right than others on your list.
