Anyone looking for a cool name for their baby boy could not do much better, in my opinion, than Volodymyr.

It means bright and famous ( as does Robert, but it's not the same name).

It can be shortened to Volodyk, Volodia and Vlodko, but I like the idea of Volo.

Or, if you taste is less traditional, maybe Zelensky (or, as they spell it in the Guardian, Zelenskiy).

Stand with Ukraine. Glory to Ukraine.

I work in a private school, there are quite a few Russian families. One family have 3 sons, all called Vladimir! Talk about confusing Confused

Surely the most important thing at the moment, however much you may love the name, even it's a family name and you've loved it all your life, is not to call your baby Vladimir.

The name Boris means brave. Doesn't mean I'd use it. Plus I had thought it meant "bone-idle wanker" until recently.

If the Puritans could name their children entire phrases with hyphens, why can't we?

Glory-To-Ukraine Smith would be a fine name, and equally stirring for either a boy or a girl.

I'm Ukrainian and it's a terrible name. Definitely wasn't on our baby boy list. We had a girl in the end anywayGrin

Just like Aleksandr, Oleksander and Alexander are the same name

I suspect they're the same name, just Ukrainian and Russian spellings.

Perhaps more suitable as a middle name.

I don’t think waiting for a baby boy to be born is good enough TBH. I think if you truly stand with Ukraine you should change your own name and everyone in family’s name to Volodymyr.
We did this (including the dog) Confuses the postman but i think it’s just the price you pay

Fine if you're Slavic, but otherwise I don't think using your child's name as an opportunity to virtue signal is a good idea.
