Initials A.S.S...

We're finalizing a name for newborn DS.
Love Bertie, but Albert is the only viable long form name we can agree on.
However, our surname is double barreled, both beginning with S.
So his initials would be ASS.
Is this as awful as I suspect or am I overthinking it?!

maybe i'm in the minority here but i think it's fine. from my experience it works like this: either they use all initials (also the middle name) or they use only the initial of the first name and surname but then they'd only use one S as double barreled surname would be seen as one name. he'd be A.S. in the worst case and otherwise A.M.S.S. or A.J.S.S. or whatever middle name you go with. just don't choose a middle name that starts with R.

BRA is fine IME

COK ASS or DIK not

If I have another baby, i want their
Initials to he LTB

Mommabear20 · 16/03/2022 12:48

Don't do it! I have a friend whose DCs initials are S.U.C.K (she didn't even realise till the child brought home her first work from school! I didn't know her then) and that poor child has been bullied relentlessly in high school! Kids can be vicious!

carefullycourageous · 16/03/2022 12:41

@sherbertdib

ASS as a set of initials is probably pushing it but some of you are way OTT with your views

So you dont approve of these?

BRA
RSS
EW
BS

They're just a combination of letters. Nothing more . There are only 26 letters in the alphabet. Who knows what phrase may be (vaguely) inappropriate in 10/20/30 years

BRA and ASS are words so they are noticeable, the others not so much.

@Halllyup17

It's awful. As is the double-barrelled surname. You can't give your kid those initials. Either give him a single surname or change his first name.
Ermmm what's awful about a double barrelled surname?!
Heckythump1 · 16/03/2022 09:44

If Bertie is the name you like, just call him Bertie, he doesn't NEED a 'long' name!

DoorLion · 16/03/2022 09:42

@Jellybean23

Bertie is quite an endearing name for a baby , not for a teenager and above. He won't thank you in later years.
Bertie Carvel seems to manage OK. Yes, I know he is really Robert, but he goes by Bertie, so it can’t be as traumatic as all that for an adult.
hipbippbop · 16/03/2022 09:35

Give him a middle name.. I had to otherwise my daughters initials would have been EW 😆

RAOK · 15/03/2022 22:56

Not in a million years!

Bluelillies · 15/03/2022 22:53

My mother lost 3 babies before having me-one would have had the initials BRA
My own sons first initials are BJ-nobody but me had noticed but I wish I’d noticed before I named him
I’d either change the first name or add another second

Choux · 15/03/2022 22:15

I've had to sign contracts by initiating every page and signing the last one. Who wants to have to write ASS on 50 pages of legal docs?

Plus as someone else says in minutes we are referred to by initials.

His ASS will follow him through his life - literally and figuratively!

carefullycourageous · 15/03/2022 22:06

You just can't, sorry

DogsAndGin · 15/03/2022 22:04

Herbert!

demoness · 08/03/2022 15:22

I wouldn't do it.

Lampyshady · 06/03/2022 13:33

I’d go for Robert then it avoids the initials and it’s nicer than Albert I think. You can call him Bertie but if he doesn’t like it he can be Rob, Robbie,Bobby etc

NumericalBlock · 06/03/2022 13:21

Nope. Our DD is A S-C, DH was considering changing his (and DD's) surname to a family 'S' name but we didn't purely for this reason.

LizzieAnt · 06/03/2022 13:16

Having a typo moment RSS - still not arse

Say RSS (as a word) Dinoteeth Smile
Still way better than ASS though.

Firebird83 · 06/03/2022 13:04

Don’t do it.

Goldenharp · 06/03/2022 11:59

One things about Robert is that it lends itself to so many possibilities - Rob, Robbie, Bert, Bertie, Bobbie, Bob etc. It is the most difficult name for skip chasers to find according to an interesting lecture on online searching I was sent to.

Dinoteeth · 06/03/2022 09:50
@Dinoteeth surely it would be RSS Confused
Beees · 06/03/2022 09:24

Especially as it’s a donkey in the uk. The initials ‘ARSE’ would be a different story!

99.99% of people are not thinking ASS in relation to a donkey in the UK. They are thinking ASS in relation to someone's bottom so its no better than if the initials were ARSE.

Halllyup17 · 06/03/2022 09:05

Timeflyin · 06/03/2022 09:01

@Donson

These are my sister’s initials. It’s never really been a big deal to her to be honest! I think you’re overthinking maybe, but I see I’m in the minority.

No. Ass means ass in the U.K. Don’t purposely make your son A.S.S 😐
TheLoneRager · 06/03/2022 08:52

I worked with someone with those initials. We made the most of it.
Don't do it OP.
