Jasper or Milo?

Which one? We both like both but I sway more towards Jasper while OH sways more towards Milo.

We’ve spent the last 9 months going through pretty much every boy name on the planet and have boiled it down to these two 😂

In the West Country a jasper was a wasp. Maybe just my school but could never use that name as a result!

TabithaHazel · 15/03/2022 21:54

Jasper is perfect :)

BiscuitLover3678 · 15/03/2022 21:51

Did you decide?

DogsAndGin · 15/03/2022 21:50

Milo

timestheyarechanging · 11/03/2022 23:49

Jasper or Casper. Only because my mums car is Milo! Lovely names though.

AuntTwacky · 11/03/2022 23:38

Milo

Seasidemumma77 · 11/03/2022 23:28

Jasper

Prepaway · 11/03/2022 23:20

I’m currently watching Twilight so have to say Jasper. Milo reminds me of a dogs name and the drink.

soulinablackberrypie · 11/03/2022 23:15

I don't love either but I think I like Milo more.

Snowbell99 · 11/03/2022 13:26

I think I prefer Milo.

To be honest I am not a huge fan of either of them. They both seem to associated with pop culture as Milo reminds me of that singer who had hits ages ago (Milow, I know it is unrelated but sounds the same) and Jasper (even though an old name) gives me Twilight vibes. But they are both fine names and very usable.

I was a child when Twilight came out and people loved it and it was just everywhere. It has still influenced the names to this day. I can only think Twilight when I hear Bella, Rosalie, Esme, Jasper even Jacob it's sort of sad. Not that I think Twilight is that awful the first book and movie are sort of fun (dislike the later ones) but still not really a great association. Weirdly enough Isabella and Edward had a lucky escape, I associate them so much with British history and kings that they do not go into Twilight territory (unless combined in a sibset).

These are both on our shortlist, my husband didn’t like Roman but I loved it. Perhaps wait and see what he looks like?

maddy68 · 06/03/2022 03:50

Milo is a dog's name , so I would definitely go Jasper

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 06/03/2022 03:49

Neither

InletsandBrambles · 06/03/2022 02:40

Jasper!

Blueberry40 · 05/03/2022 23:34

Jasper. Our rescue dog is called Milo.

Newbeginnings90 · 05/03/2022 23:33

Is the point of the forum not to get a broad sense of different folks opinions? Hmm

For the record: I wish your family all the best OP and I think Derek is a fabulous name for a Cat 🐈Smile

tcjotm · 05/03/2022 22:40

That’s really cute@KickinTheRibs. I genuinely would’ve loved to learn I’d been given the same name as the cat. We’ve had lots of human names pets too.

Also stealing ‘Derek’ if I ever get a boy cat 😂. Awesome cat name.

KickinTheRibs · 05/03/2022 14:10

Thanks all! I think we’ll go with Jasper.

Fun fact: my childhood cat was called Jasper. Well aware it can be a pets name Grin doesn’t bother me in the slightest. We also have a cat called Derek 🤣🙈

@Newbeginnings90

I know a family with a Jasper and a Milo and they are both cats.
I thought of pets names.
ElIie · 05/03/2022 13:36

Milo is my preference.

Have to admit I did have a little chuckle as Jasper and Milo are the names of my cousins labradors.

CornishGem1975 · 05/03/2022 13:34

Exactly @GreenWheat I had a cat called Jessica and one called Jacob. I know many many children with those names - should someone not call their baby Jacob because I once had a cat with that name? Would wipe out a large percentage of boys born in the last 10-15 years Grin

Arsewangry · 05/03/2022 13:27

I have a 3yo Milo and I love it. I like Jasper too, but obviously prefer Milo.

Fwiw - there was a milo in Tweenies which must be coming up for 15-20 years ago and is now irrelevant.

And for those saying it's a dogs name, I know dogs called James, Hamish, Harry and Simon so 🤷🏻‍♀️

KindlyKanga · 05/03/2022 13:24

@FayCarew

Jasper. Milo is a drink
Oh I thought it was!
tcjotm · 05/03/2022 13:23

In Australia, Milo is a very popular powdered chocolate milk drink. Absolutely delicious.

Even so, I think I prefer Milo. It’s certainly not a negative connotation and there’s something about the sound of Jasper I’m not keen on.

Having serious milo cravings now though…

SweetPotatoDumpling · 05/03/2022 13:23

(But I don't like Jasper either, sorry...it just sounds a bit 'wet' to me and I can't get past the 'Etonian' sound of it either 🤦‍♀️, or the possibility of anyone saying it with a lisp!)
