I love the name Sasha and wondered what other people thought of it. Would you think a Sasha was a boy or a girl? Do you associate Sasha with anyone in particular?

Whenever I’ve heard it, it’s a girls name, but no reason it can’t be unisex.

Sasha Obama, President Obama daughter. Short for Natasha.

There’s a Sasha in my kids class, also a girl, short for Aleksandra (her parents are Russian).

I like the name, it’s very cool.

Nutellaonall · 03/03/2022 20:00

My pet dog I had as a child was called Sasha so it’s a dogs name to me.

Dimondsareforever · 03/03/2022 19:59

Girls name for me. And agree with another poster who said ‘chavvy’. Sorry op!!

TalbotAMan · 03/03/2022 19:57

What do I think of?

One of my DDs. Actually she's Alexandra but its shortened to Sasha in the Russian place east of Poland-ish way.

BlueberryMacaron · 03/03/2022 19:57

So a posh, working class, Russian male German Shepherd dog. Got it!

I didn't think that people would think it was like calling a girl Dave. As a pp said, I see it as more like Alex. Admittedly my main exposure to Russian names is following figure skating, but there are several female Russian Sashas (Alexandras) such as Sasha Trusova. I love it equally for a boy or a girl.

Lovely name and I really wouldn't speculate on sex u.til I met them

Girl Sasha I imagine a fiesty, intelligent girl with lots of confidence and a strong moral compass

Boy Sasha I imagine a booksmart, sensitive boy who likes nature and being outdoors, but not greatly into sport. Maybe a runner, musical talent :)

MerryMarigold · 03/03/2022 19:52

If a boy, I'd think Russian. If a girl, bit Essex.

Alonelonelylonersbadidea · 03/03/2022 19:49

I cannot fathom a female Sasha.
Like calling a girl William or something equally masculine. For me at least.

PurplePansy05 · 03/03/2022 19:43

There was a famous Olympic skater from the US, Sasha Cohen, I remember watching her with admiration - so a positive association.

StScholastica · 03/03/2022 19:42

Russian boy.

Parsley1234 · 03/03/2022 19:42

windysocks · 03/03/2022 19:40

A French child's name

PurplePansy05 · 03/03/2022 19:40

It is a Slavic name, short for Alexander, most commonly. Adopted in Western languages and used as a standalone female name, rather tan a nn. I like it and think it works well for boys or girls.

Luredbyapomegranate · 03/03/2022 19:38

For a girl Sasha has a 70s feel to me, like Amber and Natasha - I knew a posh one. I wouldn’t use it as a full girl’s name now, but OK short for Alexandra.

Prefer it as a boys short form of Alexander spelt traditionally as Sacha. I would call him Alexander though, Sacha is quite a specific flavour and he might not like it.

I have a female cousin Sasha and a friends son is Sasha. I like it for a boy in particular.

Honeyroar · 03/03/2022 19:31

I had a female friend at uni called Sasha.

CayrolBaaaskin · 03/03/2022 19:28

It’s a boys name - Russian short for Alexander

Cotswoldmama · 03/03/2022 19:27

For me it's quite a posh girl name, a bit made in Chelsea.

Tinkhasflown · 03/03/2022 19:26

Girl.
Sasha the sorceress from Sofia the First!

PyjamasOClock · 03/03/2022 19:24

Alexander - Sascha Zverev in particular (fab German tennis player) - all positive connotations.

deadlanguage · 03/03/2022 19:23

I would think boy, and spoilt!

SpikeySmooth · 03/03/2022 19:23
