What are your thoughts on ...

Araminta

for a baby girl? Yay or nay?

BeefSupreme · 27/02/2022 10:49

It was on my girls' names list. Go for it.

MinglingFlamingo · 27/02/2022 10:08

I really like it

CourgetteSeason · 27/02/2022 09:46

No. There is an awful character in the Bridgerton books called Araminta. Sorry.

RuthW · 27/02/2022 09:43

Lovely

Zillamop · 27/02/2022 01:47

I quite like it

Cindie943811A · 27/02/2022 01:41

I love it. It hasn’t been used enough to be properly categorised as posh - I mean how many women do you know called Araminta, let al one posh ones?

Classica · 27/02/2022 01:37

Also reminds me of Moondial, which I loved.

Not hugely keen on the name tho.

Alonelonelylonersbadidea · 26/02/2022 22:05

It's lovely.
Decidedly posh but that's probably better than chavtastiic. I'd use it in a heartbeat.

Luredbyapomegranate · 26/02/2022 22:03

Too fussy for me. But it’s probably about to go big once there are too many Arabellas and Aurelias.

Dogzndiamonds · 26/02/2022 22:02

I can't help but think Aramunter...🙈

MissM2912 · 26/02/2022 22:01

I love it- but depends on your social group. If you are around a lot of exclusive public school types probably grand. If you are in a council estate in a deprived area not so much.

PriamFarrl · 26/02/2022 22:00

I knew an Araminta. She was lovely but very very posh.

FennecShandDoesEverything · 26/02/2022 21:58

It's the female equivalent of Tarquin IME, and absolutely screams "posh bubble".

Gregsprinkles · 26/02/2022 21:56

I think it's very fussy.

Synchrony · 26/02/2022 21:43

A bit fussy for me, and makes me think "very posh". But I can see why others like it.

MerryMarigold · 26/02/2022 21:42

It's very Jilly Cooper, if you like that sort of thing (not for me).

wildthingsinthenight · 26/02/2022 21:38

Love it. Minty for short?

Jobseeker19 · 26/02/2022 21:33

Sounds like a pasta sauce

OddsNSodsBitsNBobs · 26/02/2022 21:32

Yes, moondial, yes minty, but truly awful name

Arrabella?
Ariella?
Ariana?

Totalwasteofpaper · 26/02/2022 21:30

Love it 😍

DramaAlpaca · 26/02/2022 21:24

Nay from me. It's far too frilly and Minty for short is horrid.

HeadlessGummyBears · 26/02/2022 20:23

Lovely Flowers

BaconOmelette · 26/02/2022 20:05

Sorry, my first thought was that it sounds like an artificial sweetener or some sort of weird herbal supplement.

Whenasuitcasejustwontdo · 26/02/2022 20:04

I think it's the name of a character is Crazy Rich Asians. It's a pretty name.

Prescottdanni123 · 26/02/2022 20:03

I've always quite liked it. If you like it, go for it. There isn't a name that exists that won't get at least a handful of negative comments on mumsnet.
