What are your thoughts on ...

Araminta

for a baby girl? Yay or nay?

Sorry it sounds like it should be a mouthwash. Really dislike it (you did ask).

Blubells · 02/03/2022 19:22

Sorry Really like

Blubells · 02/03/2022 19:21

I realise Araminta. Very pretty

Blubells · 02/03/2022 19:21

It’s very pretty. But. It’s very try-hard

Try hard Confused. Trying hard to what??

TempsPerdu · 02/03/2022 19:18

It is way too much. Too frilly, too precious, too minor public school/Pony Club/Jilly Cooper. It’s a posh caricature of a name.

DogsAndGin · 02/03/2022 19:15

FennecShandDoesEverything · 28/02/2022 20:56

Good to know it's not one you love... It really is the Pony Clubbiest of all Pony Club names and conjures up someone with rather more ponies than brain cells for me. Sorry.

TizerorFizz · 28/02/2022 20:55

@florianfortescue
I put it on our shortlist. I like it. Depends on how you view unusual names where DD will be the only one with the name.

Suzyinthesummertime · 28/02/2022 20:51

It's terrible, I agree with Fennec- its like the female equivalent of Tarquin. I sometimes wonder if these name suggestions are a joke

florianfortescue · 28/02/2022 20:47

Thanks all! Full disclosure: I do not like it but DH really does for some reason and I wanted to check whether I was missing something!

I think we'll avoid tbh, I think pp were right that it would get shortened to "Minty" and that just makes me think of that bloke from Eastenders.

Very much dislike. Overly fussy and twee. Far nicer 'A' names out there.

RaininSummer · 27/02/2022 19:43

Pretty dreadful. It puts me in mind of a posh little Violet Elizabeth Bott type on a thelwell pony. Sorry.

SuperSocks · 27/02/2022 19:41

I wouldn't use it but it's a pretty cool name!

Firesidefox · 27/02/2022 19:36

bit twee

Rockmehardplace · 27/02/2022 19:32

Way too twee, posh and flouncy for me and Minty is dreadful.

babynamelover · 27/02/2022 19:02

Bit fussy but offers lots of nn potential 🙂

ThatsNotMyGolem · 27/02/2022 15:12

It's the sort of name you vow to name your daughter after watching Moondial age 9.

cheapskatemum · 27/02/2022 14:48

I love it & nn could be Ari, rather than Minty. I'm reminded of Ari Up of The Slits

KirstenBlest · 27/02/2022 12:35

It's ok but a bit long. Will be Minty

demoness · 27/02/2022 11:59

I don't like it, personally. But it's fine for somebody else's child. I can see it becoming more widely used because of the popularity of Aria and Arabella.

SometimesRavenSometimesParrot · 27/02/2022 10:57

I like it, and the nickname minty but where I’m from minty is slang for dirty so it’s a no from me

MajorCarolDanvers · 27/02/2022 10:54

Awful sorry. Really over the top.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 27/02/2022 10:53

Love it.

Hummingbirdcake · 27/02/2022 10:52

Nope.

BeefSupreme · 27/02/2022 10:51

Harriet Tubman's birth name was Araminta so it's not just an English upper class name.
