Narrowed girls names down to Matilda or Eloise.
Which do you prefer? And Why? Both go nicely with surname.

Thank you 😊

Matilda definitely! Timeless and beautiful💗

Lalliella · 01/03/2022 00:34

Eloise. Both are pretty though.

Caramelcap · 26/02/2022 16:47

Eloise 100% - just nicer IMO

Gillyx · 26/02/2022 09:21

My vote is Eloise! So pretty and can be shortened to Elle or Lo which I love.

NessieMcNessface · 25/02/2022 23:02

100% Matilda - I love all variations of it. Not a fan of Eloise I’m afraid.

Hollywolly1 · 25/02/2022 22:55

It has to be Matilda ,just has to be and Tilda is fab if shortened also.Flowers

DramaAlpaca · 25/02/2022 22:46

Love both, but on the basis that I love the song by The Damned I'll go for Eloise.

whysoserious123 · 25/02/2022 22:45

Matilda

Eloise is hard to say and prefer the nicknames for Matilda

Zillamop · 25/02/2022 22:44

I prefer Eloise. Not keen on Matilda, any more than Hilda; they have a rather lumpy sound.

lisaandalan · 25/02/2022 22:29

Love both of them x

WeasilyPleased · 25/02/2022 22:22

Matilda because theres such a glut of El names. I think Tilda is a really cool nn for teenager or adult.

Fivebeanchilli · 25/02/2022 22:19

I much prefer Matilda.
I've never liked Eloise but not for any particular reason. I just don't find it attractive.

Mumofgirls2017 · 25/02/2022 22:16

Love both, Matilda has the edge

StopFeckingFaffing · 25/02/2022 19:23

Tricky choice because Iike them both

I really like Eloise but would be worried about it becoming Ellie, Ella or Elle which are a bit overdone so on that basis I'll vote Matilda

SkyrocketAway · 25/02/2022 19:19

If I had an Eloise, the nickname would be Elle, and with Matilda, Tilly.

You should consider what nicknames she may end up preferring as parents don't always get the say.

I knew an Olivia who went by Oli as her nickname throughout primary, but when she hit her teens she chose to go by Livy.

MrsToadflax · 25/02/2022 19:15

Eloise. I like Matilda and Tilda as a nn, but really dislike Tilly. I wouldn't risk friends calling her Tilly.

KirstenBlest · 25/02/2022 18:54

Matilda

Eloise is a bit of a mouthful and some will misspell it as Elouise, and it's yet another Ellie name.

cptartapp · 25/02/2022 18:16

Eloise. Much more a name to grow up with.
Dislike Matilda intensely. Yet another name that's nice for a pretty young girl, not so much maybe for a frumpy forty year old, and detest the nn 'Tilly'.

Luredbyapomegranate · 25/02/2022 18:13

@Nelliephant1

Not Matilda. She'll get mattie and teased about the film and various cartoon characters.

Eloise will give her options and it's not got any negative connotations. Matilda most definitely has.

Don’t be ridiculous. It’s a popular name.
Luredbyapomegranate · 25/02/2022 18:13

@Justkeeppedaling

Matilda. Because no one will ever spell Eloïse properly. (It has a dieresis)
Well no, because it’s a faff to type - but people know how to pronounce it so I don’t think that matters, language and spelling evolves, etc.

But anything I’d go for Matilda OP, it’s a bit stronger to my ear, she won’t be one of 27 Ellies in her friendship group, and Tilda and Mattie are both nice nns if she wants them.

Ghastlyghoul · 25/02/2022 18:06

Matilda . Love it. Scope for it to be shortened too. Won’t go out of fashion and is easy to spell, pronounce and sounds strong.

Nelliephant1 · 25/02/2022 18:05

redlabeltea · 25/02/2022 18:03

That's my point. If you can't spell it, don't use it.

Fair enough. I disagree. You can spell names how you like. Hannah or Hanna, Michele or Michelle (knew a Michele), Chloe or Chloë or Chloé.

Justkeeppedaling · 25/02/2022 17:42

@redlabeltea

It has a dieresis

Is the parent even planning to use that? Many don't. I went to school with two girls in the same class called "Chloe", one spelled just like that, but the other spelled "Chloë". The only Eloise I know doesn't use the dieresis as her parent didn't spell her name like that.

That's my point. If you can't spell it, don't use it.

clpsmum · 25/02/2022 17:38

Matilda just love it
