Marguerite Vesper or Primrose Adelaide?

I posted here a while back about the name Primrose Adelaide. I’ve accepted that it’s a love it or hate it name, lol. Most here weren’t keen on it. However, when I asked a local name group I am on they overwhelmingly preferred Primrose. (300 votes vs 70 votes) So I wanted to ask here again your opinions on which you prefer - Marguerite Vesper [lastname] or Primrose Adelaide [lastname]?

Reasons why we love both the name:

We both love the name Marguerite! We both have sentimental attachments to it. Margot is the diminutive of Marguerite, so her nickname would be Margot. We adore the name Margot but it is just so popular that I don’t want that to be her full name. My kids, Lochlan and Elowyn, both have that long O sound so Margot would fit perfectly. Our daughters would be called Margot and Winnie which I think sounds precious together. (Elowyn’s nickname is Winnie or occasionally Wynn)
The meaning of my name is Tree Meadow and Elowyn means Elm Tree. Marguerite means Pearl so all the girl names would be not on the nose nature names.

My favorite name has been Vesper since I was in my teens. Vesper means ‘Evening Star’ and the stars are very special to us.

But I also love Primrose! It's not the typically long names that I prefer but I love it so much. Her nickname would be Prim, which fits in great with our kids nicknames Loch, Wynn, and Prim. We’ve also considered the nickname Posy - so Winnie and Posy. It also is a nature name, just a bit more on the nose. But I hate the nickname Rose. My husband's family have used the middle name Rose to death and that makes me hesitant.

Adelaide would be in honor of my husband (who hasn't had the chance to be so in our other two kids names, although our kid names were his top choices so he's thrilled about their names) His nickname growing up was Addy-boy so Adelaide (Addy being a common nickname for Adelaide) would be in honor of her Dad.

Thoughts?

@Borland

To me Marguerite Vesper sounds like a character from a Barbara Cartland novel, and Primrose Adelaide sounds like a stripper/drag queen. I like the suggestion someone made of Margot Adele.
😂👍

I would definitely not have liked to have had the nickname “Prim”, I shudder to think of the teasing at school, etc. Having said that, I love the nickname Posy!

mathanxiety · 25/02/2022 03:01

I love the long names together. There is no need for balancing names out. Imo what matters is cadence.

OkPedro · 25/02/2022 01:45

Oh but Astrid is a lovely name.. obviously not astra like the car??

OkPedro · 25/02/2022 01:42

My only issue is the nicknames they are awful and only would be used when your children are cute babies.. they will one day be teenagers, young adults and then adults. That's how I chose my children's names..yes I love their names but they should be names that suits as they grow older..

Jacopo · 25/02/2022 01:28

I think if you are having a fancy polysyllabic name for the first name you should just have a short ordinary one for the other name. Your suggestions are a real mouthful, sorry.

mathanxiety · 25/02/2022 01:22

Primrose Adelaide is lovely and would go with your other names.

KimikosNightmare · 25/02/2022 01:00

Vesper is awful. The other combinations of 2 very long names aren't great and they could be Hyacinth Bucket's sisters.

Wedonttalkaboutrats · 25/02/2022 00:47

Whilst they’re all quite pretty names, I do worry that all of them fall into the today cute/trendy but tomorrow what you call your dog category.
Like 15 years ago, everyone was calling their kid Lola, now if you stand in the park and call Lola, you’ll get about 100 yapping Cockerpoos running towards you.

@indiesearcher thanks for the lovely suggestions!

@leopooh I know I tend to overthink most things, so I guess that includes baby names 😆😬

Marguerite Vesper - lovely! 👍🏻

leopooh · 25/02/2022 00:14

I didn't know people put this much thought into names or nicknames! 😆

indiesearcher · 25/02/2022 00:08

Also, Vega and Aster, both meaning star, reminded me of your Vesper.

indiesearcher · 25/02/2022 00:04

I came on to say Seren.

Margot Seren

Beautiful!

@Luredbyapomegranate

Thank you for your response! It was lovely to read!

I loved your assessment and description of Marguerite! I’m letting my husband take the lead on Adelaide. I’ve brought up many female names with the nickname Addy but he loves Adelaide. (I love it too, but if he preferred a different one I would be happy with that too) I think it makes him feel nostalgic for when he lived in NZ. Astra is a beautiful suggestion and one I hadn’t thought of.

They both sound like names of boats- sorry but you do did ask.

wildthingsinthenight · 24/02/2022 23:37

Unhelpfully, I think both are great. Slightly prefer Primrose.

KirstenBlest · 24/02/2022 23:34

Marguerite Vesper

InletsandBrambles · 24/02/2022 23:30

@Kanaloa
If she’s like her sister, she will likely be referred to as Marguerite or Margot 50-50. I understand the argument of naming your child but you intend to call them instead of giving them a long formal name with an every day nickname. However we use full names and nicknames pretty evenly.

@Synchrony good point.

GreenClock · 24/02/2022 23:20

Marguerite is gorgeous, really classy. I love Adelaide nn Addy too.

Seren could be a “star” alternative? I agree with the negative comments about Vesper, sorry.

InletsandBrambles · 24/02/2022 23:16

@Datsandcogs thank you for your thoughtful response! They both mean a lot to us, which is probably why this is so hard! Ugh!
