Hey,
I’m a soon to be teen mum, Im expecting a baby girl but have no idea what to name her!

She will be mixed-raced and I’m looking for more unique names!

I am in my 30s now and can safely say that had I had a baby as a teenager (as some many of my friends did) the name I'd have chosen I would not choose today. Definitely think long and hard and ask for input from your older (30+) loved ones. Imagine the name on a checkout girl, hairdresser, Dr, librarian, retail assistant etc. We all have big hopes for our little ones but chances are she'll live a fairly normal life like the rest of us and something like Beyonce or a totally made up name may be too much.

As you are very young (compared to me), I'd think long and hard if you'll still like the name in 20 or 30 years time.

Your taste and name trends will change.

You might not stay with the father indefinitely and you might not want your children to have very different name styles

If you are not married, give your child your surname.

It's not right, but bear in mind that a name that is overly connected to a race, culture or religion might be viewed negatively.

If you specified what mixed race she'll be, people might be able to give you more targeted suggestions. Eg, you might want a completely different name for someone who is Chinese/Mexican than the name you'd pick for someone British/French - or you might not don't listen to me!
