Carlotta is beautiful.

Don't like Lottie at all.

DogsAndGin · 21/02/2022 13:44

I love it as a nickname for Charlotte

beetree1 · 21/02/2022 13:16

I love the name Lottie and don't like the name Charlotte. I don't think you need to give her a long version of the name if you like the 'nick name'

Alrightqueenie · 21/02/2022 05:19

It's OK for a 3yr old girl but not for a 33yr old woman that your dd will grow up to be. Lottie for an adult sounds childish. I used to know a Carlotta nn Lotta which sounded a bit classier.

Hellodaahling · 21/02/2022 03:56

Lottie is nice but just as a nickname.
I prefer the longer name Charlotte.

If you want something less common that Charlotte then why not:
Charlotta. I once knew a charlotta and it’s actually so beautiful, and her nickname was Lotta!

Carlotta

Lotus?

oncemoreunto · 21/02/2022 01:43

Lottie is fine as nickname for Charlotte.
I wouldn't restrict a dc to just Lottie as a full name, it isn't very grown up.

AuntTwacky · 21/02/2022 01:40

Sweet

greenteafiend · 21/02/2022 01:17

It's twee and awful, sorry. I don't know any Charlottes who choose to go by Lottie, so that should be telling you something. If you must, go for Charlotte as a full name so that at least she has the ability to dump Lottie later on.

LondonQueen · 20/02/2022 23:44

Lovely name, girl in the school I work at is called Lottie and she is a great kid.

Februarymama · 20/02/2022 23:34

We have an Ottilie nn Lottie, just as another idea if you did want a more formal name.

ThatsNotMyGolem · 20/02/2022 22:40

Horrible!

Fedupsotired · 20/02/2022 11:42

I love it and wanted to use it but my dh didn't like it. I taught a lovely Lottie once 🤣. Being a teacher really reduced the names I can use!!

Thefaceofboe · 20/02/2022 11:19

Lottie is lovely. My baby has a nickname name and no one even asks me if it’s short for anything in real life so I wouldn’t worry.

dmb91 · 19/02/2022 09:36

I love Lottie! (It's very high on our list) But I hate Charlotte. I don't understand the culture of giving someone a longer name but only calling them by the nickname.. just name them the nickname.

Alcoholfree1 · 19/02/2022 09:31

I know it can be a nickname but im not interested in peoples thoughts on charlotte
Just Lottie as a name…

RosieRoww · 19/02/2022 09:29

Lovely!

FinallyFree2022 · 19/02/2022 09:02

Anything with an ie ending is twee imo. Many will disagree.

Lottie is a nickname/shortening for Charlotte that's why everyone is mentioning it HmmHmmConfused

Alcoholfree1 · 19/02/2022 08:24

I don’t like the name charlotte
I just like Lotie i also dont like nicknames or shortening ect
Everyone is so focused on charlotte lol

Charlotte is lovely in its entirety. Lottie is contrived and infantile. And yet another name to add to the millions ending in ie, boring.

SweetPotatoDumpling · 19/02/2022 07:00

@Blubells

I don't really understand how Charlotte (with the emphasis on Char) shortens to Lottie anyway. It's not a 'natural' shortening.

It's not a 'shortening'...it's a nickname. Not the same thing. Like Charlie/Charles. 'Charlie' being 2 syllables so 'longer' than one syllable 'Charles'...both with the same number of letters!

There are lots of nicknames that sound nothing like the name...Betty for Elizabeth, with its hard 'tty' instead of soft 'th' on the end, or Billy for William.

Some are far more obscure but still nicknames...Daisy/Margaret 🤷‍♀️ (because the French word for 'Daisy' is marguerite...so 'Daisy' became a common nickname for girls called Margaret...my Nan was one such!)

SuPerDoPer · 19/02/2022 06:28

I like the name Charlotte and if you want to use the nn Lottie I guess that's OK for a little girl. Not as a name on its own though as its not great for an adult. Its also pretty posh, if that's the vibe you're going for?

Blubells · 19/02/2022 06:21

Lottie isn't nice or classy.

Charlotte is beautiful. It's also 2 syllables and just as easy to say. Charlie as a nickname.

Starlightandsparkles · 19/02/2022 00:22

I am a Charlotte and hate being called Lottie-my auntie used to wind me up by singing ‘Lottie, lottie sat on her potty, she was a bit snotty’

Every other Charlotte I’ve ever met hates it too

FinallyFree2022 · 19/02/2022 00:19

Tweee. Charlotte is fine though.
