Currently pregnant with our first child and Lucia has made it's way onto the list of girls names. What do people think?

@ItsJustASimpleLine

Lucia is beautiful, but be aware it is a main character from Encanto which is a very popular movie atm so it will likely prove popular for a while. This may not bother you but something to think about.

Eliza and Francesca are also beautiful.

Isn't it Luisa that's a main character?

I really like Lu-chi-a pronunciation but prefer Lucy to Lu-see-a.

It's only a problem the first time you meet someone. After you've introduced your child it stops being a problem, I wouldn't worry about the pronunciation if you prefer a particular one.

Unusual and beautiful

CrimbleCrumble1 · 17/02/2022 18:10

I like the Lucinda suggestion.

MerryMarigold · 16/02/2022 21:24

I think it's a bit pretentious, truthfully, but I read it as Loo Chee uh. How about Louisa?

idiotmagnet · 16/02/2022 20:07

Love it. Beautiful name

SweetPotatoDumpling · 16/02/2022 19:52

I like it...I think of the lovely song Santa Lucia (pronounced Loo-chee-ah) which my grandpa used to sing to me when I was a little girl. Brings back lovely memories. So that's how I'd say it too ♥️

Itsnotdeep · 16/02/2022 19:34

I know a Loo-see-a and she's lovely and it's a lovely name.

I like it the best out of your shortlist.

Casheeeew · 16/02/2022 19:30

I'd automatically assume loo SEE ah and I think it's nice, congrats op

SoupDragon · 16/02/2022 19:23

@EishetChayil

Why would it be Loo-cheea in the UK?
Because that's how it is often pronounced?

thetombliboo · 16/02/2022 18:16

I know of a couple little girls both pronounced lou-chee-ah
Pretty.

MajorCarolDanvers · 16/02/2022 17:40

Nice name but your child will spend her life correcting spelling and pronunciation

Thoosa · 16/02/2022 17:36

@MissMaple82

Lovely name, and unique. Go for it
It’s not unique. It’s been in use since at least as far back as Ancient Rome! Grin

The only way to get a unique name is to invent a brand new one. Usually not a wise move.

Jellybean23 · 16/02/2022 17:26

A nice name if it fits with the surname

MissMaple82 · 16/02/2022 17:24

Lovely name, and unique. Go for it

Thoosa · 16/02/2022 17:17

It’s gorgeous.

MichaelAndEagle · 16/02/2022 17:16

Lucia, Eliza and Francesca are all really lovely!

StopForAMinute · 16/02/2022 17:12

I really like Lucia. Eliza is also lovely.

AppleKatie · 16/02/2022 16:30

Eliza is a beautiful name, I’d choose that.

Tree543 · 16/02/2022 16:28

I have a close relative called this. No Italian background.Pronounced Loo chee a. I quite like it

UrsulaLittleBear · 16/02/2022 16:25

It’s a beautiful name. I like both pronunciations but would say Lu-see-ah.

irishfarmer · 16/02/2022 16:16

I don't like it, but not for any real reason, I don't know why I don't like it. I don't think there is anything wrong with it though either. Guess that is why we aren't all called the same thing!

I prefer you other names, Eliza would be my choice, closely followed by Francesca.
I know picking names is really hard!

LSL0708 · 16/02/2022 14:39

Thanks for all the responses Smile The pronunciation issue is definitely something to think about. But I think it's staying on the list for now.

Other girls names topping the list at the moment are Eliza (my choice) and Francesca (DP's choice).

Who knew thinking of a name was so hard?!

I have a Lucia so I obviously love the name.
I'm Hispanic/Latina so I pronounce it, "Loo-see-ah".
She was born in England and many people pronounced it the Italian way. Sure, there was a bit of time with me correcting people but that didn't last long.
