Tom connotations put anyone off?

Okay it may be hormones but…Tom Riddle? Tom tit? Tom foolery? I could go on, has this put anyone off the name and should it put me off this name (would be Thomas on bc but only called Tom)

I have a Thomas, known as Tom who is now 22. None of the connotations you mention ever entered our heads OP. Defo overthinking.

Classic name, I've got it in my head it's a Biblical name, can't really go wrong with it.

You are overthinking it for "Tom" having a negative meaning in most peoples heads - Thomas has been in the top 50 for more than a century (often top 10), so there are gazillions of "Tom's" and Thomas's out there, which negates any negative associations to me (the same as for William, Alexander, James, Edward etc - all lovely, classic, timeless names).

If you like Tom (Thomas), I'd say go for it - it's lovely imo. I adore most of these timeless boys names in full - my only issue is I sometimes don't like the most common shortenings, but Tom is nice (ie. personally not keen on "Alex" for Alexander, "Ed" for Edward etc but that's personal taste).

I've been Tom for 50 years and it hasn't given me any issues.

I have a Tommy I wouldn't think of any of those things if someone said Tom to me, although mine refuses to be called Tom

There's only him and a Thomas in the whole of the junior school which is 2 classes per year so not hugely popular around here

Not sure about the infant or nursery though!

Prefer Alex to Tom. Tom was very popular in my age group so there are 100s of them.

Thank you everyone! Argh so annoying that I overthink everything, strangely all the Toms I know are not the nicest but I’m trying not to let that put me off as I’ve always liked the name. Other considering is Alex.
Cant think of any for Tom. My Nephew had a friend called Alexander, who would ALWAYS be Alexnder, neverAlex.....until he got to school

please do NOT called him Alexif you have a surname anything like theirs.

good choices, I know twins called Alex and Tom! I wouldn't think of any of those connotations for Tom.

DP is called Tom. I call him Tom Petty occasionally. The Harry Potter one is a bit of a stretch! Though Riddle is a cool surname.

I've got a Tom and none of those thoughts have ever occurred to me.

It is popular - in the year DS was born it was the most popular boys name - but DH and I both loved it and didn't care.
